Looks WWII to me, but can't identify what it might go on. The black finish tells me it's probably something Navy, and not Army, else it would be green rather than black.
I used to conduct a regular business doing surplus material resale, so I'm in for WAY over $10K over the past several years. Not to the $100K mark, though.
That's a beautiful truck for having been used (and probably abused) by the movie industry. Very fresh paint on that too!
Plan on dualling the rear wheels out, or leaving as is?
Absolute crap, and this in a so-called free country. Take him to court, sue his ass off. It is private property and you can have an inoperable non-plated vehicle painted whatever color on your own property if you want to. Start going by HIS house and take pictures of HIS crap and challenge...
"Gumby" is already taken by a truck, but I think your truck qualifies for the name "Kermit". Obvious reasons.
I look forward to seeing it all repainted and restored to her former glory!
Ha ha - I remember Aberdeen 2005 there was a man selling a M656/757 with the expandable van body for $4000 but he wanted to keep the tires for that price. For $8000 you can have it WITH the tires! Bet you'll never hear a used car salesman say that: "Well, we got a deal on this car, but you'll...
Very cool looking M114. Lots of mods that make sense from a protective/defensive standpoint.
Do you have a pic of all the M114s that you guys have that you have done mods to?
The 548 has a lot of power for it's size. Remember that the powerpack is the same as on the M113, except the M113 has a lot of armor to carry around. The 548 doesn't have armor, so it's a bit lighter on its feet.
Very nice 8x8 - glad it's finally all come together, it's been a long time coming. Since it's such a rare beast, I bet you've had to learn about EVERYTHING mechanical on it, just to have it as reference in case a part had to be fixed/rebuilt/etc.
What's the next project? ;)
It looks okay, but not $6K okay. I'd expect a little bit more for the money than what you're getting. If I was being fair to the seller, for a M38, a civvy Jeep, and a M100 trailer, maybe $4000 to $4500.
Before you sign off on the radiator cap being the problem, check to make sure that your overflow tube isn't clogged. If it is, the pressure buildup will force the coolant out the rad. cap, replacing the cap won't fix the problem. You can check the overflow tube with a wire coat hanger.
I'm not real certain about the layout of the -292 body and how it opens, but hopefully I can interject a couple suggestions that make sense.
Don't use WD40, it's great for squeeks and light duty stuff, but it evaporates fast and doesn't penetrate too well for the heavy duty stuff. Use...
The early deuces, back in the early 1950s, came with combat rims that were similar to the WWII style bolt together combat rims. They are hard to find now, and worth their weight in gold (well, almost). The A3 rims are just as expensive, meant for the the newest variants of the deuces, and are...
