You can hear the pump running if there is not alot of noise around. Under the cover on the pump there is a fuse. I'd check that first. They seem to run fine without the pump working after they are started. Could be other things that make the truck hard to start but I'd check the pump first.
Most of these vehicles are 30+ years old. You can really go over the vehicle and a buyer still can have problems shortly afer they buy it. The fact is that old stuff can break at any time. Sure, places like Memphis Equipment offer warranties but the cost is figured into the high price they ask...
Using a IR thermometer won't work unless you can figure out a way to check it while going down the road. If you stop and check it by the time you get stopped and get out of the truck to check it it will have already have dropped several 100 degrees. EGT fluctuates alot more than coolant temps...
I got a set from NAPA (don't recall the number off the top of my head) but the gaskets were wrong. I've heard of other people getting the wrong gaskets. I reused my old ones and now have a leak :-(. Think I'm fixing to go with jatonka's setup in the near future.
OD Iron has been known to be...
The parts issue is a big one. Sure, you can get internal parts for the engine or the trans from Allison or Cat but there are some parts that are A3 specific. I know Monkeyboyarmy's A3 had the trans dipstick missing when he got it. He called all of the major parts suppliers and the only answer he...
Don't know if I'd want to take a chance on something like a clutch used. I'd run it a little more with the old clutch before I tore it back down. Could be that you'll finally burn all the oil off. It won't hurt anything to run it other than the clutch and it could be bad anyway.
The good thing about not needing a sf97 (if they will in fact do it) is saving $60 and weeks waiting for the sf97. I may try it on my next truck and see what they say. I do feel I may have burned a few bridges over this ordeal though. Dickson is a fairly small town and I know several people that...
I don't know if this is correct or not. I've seen several engines with rebuild tags on them but most I've seen do not. That leads me to belive that any engine without a rebuild tag hasn't been rebuilt.
Some trucks tow well and some don't. Don't know why other than maybe the tow-in is off or something. If you happen to hook onto a truck that won't track you can tie off the wheel to get home. It's best not to tie off the wheel but sometimes you have to. It's hard on the front tires when you tie...
:ditto:
I think the TM says adjust by feel. I'm pretty sure the only torque spec is for the jam nut.
The wheel should spin freely by hand when you are done but no so loose that there is movement from side to side.
Thanks everybody for your help in this matter. I called the state today and got everything straightened out. Talked to a nice woman at the TN Dept of Revenue that seemed to take offense to local offices not going by state law. I told her my problem and she called my local office and gave them a...
Like others have said, Please post the speed and RPM you were running when the rod came loose. I'd also like to know what brand engine it was to see if some brands are more prone to this than others.
Found something interesting in the link Tnrobocop provided.
(2) Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter to the contrary, a person may apply for a certificate of title to a vehicle lacking proper documentation, if the vehicle is at least thirty (30) years old and the person submits...
Thanks for the link and I understand what you are saying about having title in hand but when I was there last week (before I sold it) everything went through ok and I thought I was good to go untill they called today. I'm 100% sure they are in the wrong and if all else fails I'll make a trip to...
One problem is they said they are needing a "tilte extension" and they didn't even sound like they know what that is.
The other problem with mail is as I said above Pupply came and picked this truck up yesterday and I told him the title was in the works (it usually only takes a week or two to...
Is there a place where you can go on line and look up state laws? All I get when I do a Google search is people wanting to charge me for info. I want to be prepared when I go back tomorrow.
72cj5, I think you are right. They are claiming the state is requiring the "title extension". I'm almost 100% sure the state of TN is still excepting sf97 from GL. I've been dealing with the branch office in Dickson. I'm going to go to the main office in Charlotte tomorrow and see how far I get...
I submitted my sf97 to my local County Clerk's office (the people that handle title transfers) in Dickson,TN last week. I get a call from them today and was told that I need more paperwork before they can submit it to the state. I gave them everything GL gave me plus a copy of the paid in full...
