LOL! I just had to drive down to Santa Barbara for a few days ago, and while it's beautiful, I wouldn't want to ever live there.
Best of luck with your 934A2! I may have the M923 above by then, maybe we could convoy up!
Nomadic, Where in SoCal? I grew up in Atascadero, about equidistant between LA and SFO. A few more Steel Soldiers members around here too, I know one in person. Come visit sometime, drive up in an MV!
Hey CSM Davis, I'm presently living in Fairbanks, but I was previously (and will again in the future) be located in the Sitka area. It's funny, I actually had a roommate in Fairbanks who was a MV enthusiast as well, we met through Steel Soldiers by happenstance..."Where in Alaska are you...
Wow. I'll have to keep an eye out but am looking for a Deuce or M939 series 5 ton specifically. I may pull the trigger on this one since it's where I grew up and where I'd like to move back to after college anyway. Although, I would love to bring it to Fairbanks in the meantime.
Jbulach, there's a thought, but I doubt there's as much up there, they've probably all been surplused. I've never seen one at auction there, and I've looked. I'm eventually thinking about moving back here to California anyhow, so one here works well. I'd love to drive her to Fairbanks and...
Yeah, for my first MV I think it would do fine in that role. I'm also considering this one because of its history, even though it'll be in AK at first it'll be a piece of history. Snowtrac Nome, you've driven the M939s up there? Would love to eventually get together with a few other like...
Interesting opinions!
As for service life and MPG, I would quite frankly daily drive it wherever it would fit and if I could afford the fuel! And as far as the million mile service life, I fully intend on putting that to the test, I would daily drive the snot out of mine until it absolutely...
Latest crazy idea:
I might be a future M923A0 owner. Found one back where I grew up that belongs to a fellow Steel Soldiers member. It came from the Camp San Luis Obispo National Guard, and considering that I was born in San Luis Obispo and grew up in Atascadero I'm thinking that even though...
Hey Jbulach, looks good! Post overall truck pics when done! I'm curious as to how the finished install will look as someone who may be getting one of these soon myself.
Right...
Hypothetically would you even consider towing it back from Ohio to Wisconsin? Would consider paying someone on here to do it instead, who for one thing knows their way around these trucks.
How 'bout if the shippers are the ones picking it up, with the correct paperwork of course? Maybe replacing an alternator is still a cheaper route than getting them shipped there or whatever?
So it would have XZLs then? Wes, want me to PM you the listing so you can take a look, maybe you could tell me? 98G looked at it for me and them PM'ed me with his thoughts.
Think the stock one would be OK getting the truck started to drive onto a step deck trailer, then off? Later, once stored at a connection's place, a couple new 8Ds could go in.
I've heard the alternator thing too, but thanks foe the heads up nevertheless, Tinstar! I've also read multiple recovery stories where the stock alternator was trying to charge dead batteries (totally dead) and subsequently fried itself.
