I think the 6.2 falls into the category of turd polishing as well. In stock form, it os adequate for what it is and what it does. When you want more from it, it takes exponentially more dollars than what you get out of it. By the time you tweak it, you could have just started with something...
Rental trailer plus insurance...
Too many unknowns for flat towing. Play the "what if" game...
What if the fluids aren't full
What if the driveshaft has bad ujoints
What if one of the brakes are locked up
etc.
etc.
etc.
Trailering means no worries the whole ride home.
Most of the time, the only good heavy duty part out of a 3/4 ton burb is the 4L80E from the 91 model. All others have standard fare TH400 if you want a 3 speed auto. The axle are generally worthless. You are much better holding out for a K30, that is the only way to score full one ton running...
Too much money. You could get a 14 bolt ff with 4:10's for $100 to $200 depending on condition, a complete reman 700r4 for $1000 to $1200 depending on if you get a new torque converter and lock up solenoid, and a matching 8 lug 10 bolt for free because everyone wanting a Dana 60 would give it...
Amazon.com is your friend, being able to see customer feedback really helps when purchasing "questionable" electronics.
Unless you need a full head unit, I'm a big fan of just using an amp stashed under the seat somewhere running to my iPod. Everything is hidden and the most expensive piece...
I was amazed to see a set of H1 12 bolts on craigslist in Maine. Just keep searching. I was able to find Goodyear MT's local on craigslist...who would have thought.
I would have to think about putting a regular pickup bed or ambulance body on it. I think I may just keep my body and buy a trailer. Not quite sure yet.
I am looking to sell my generator setup very soon. When my truck was running, I engaged the PTO and the generator spins. My frequency gauge...
Skinny is the name because that is what I am...although as I get older, it is getting harder to keep the name. In another 10 years, my nickname will probably be CHUBBY.
It looks like good company. There is so much useful information on this website. I like your rig, it was one of the trucks...
Update on my progress...
I bought a pair of Exide 1000 CCA group 31 batteries from Tractor Supply for $100 each. Much better than the $170 each for the cheapies at NAPA. I hope they last...
Now it cranks very fast now, happy with results. When I put the batteries in, it fired right up but it...
No plans to tow anything specific. Just a general work mule. If a buddy needs to pull a boat or work trailer, I've got no fears. No long hauls on the highway, just local.
I think I've narrowed it down to a 285/75/16 E tire. BFG KM2 if still available, Goodyear Duratrac, or a Treadwright...
The 255/85/16 appears to only come in an E rated BFG KM2 which rocks for $190 each. They are slightly taller and skinnier than the 285/75/16...decisions decisions
With a little bit of reading, I think the best option would be to have a small gas Genny like a Honda EU2000i in the back to run any...
I've got the TM's and have been lurking through the CUCV section for the last week. It has been much more entertaining than staring at the wall all week with my foot up.
Do you have any pictures of your truck with the Duratrac's on it? I originally wanted to do HMMWV takeoff's but have...
Hi guys
I will skip the hokey forum introduction and just say the SS is a pretty cool forum. I get on Pirate4x4 often because I do some custom 4x4 builds but this is my first military spec vehicle. I am looking forward to building my new toy.
I burned my foot with some boiling water last...
