18B, VERY impressive.
I like the 939series trucks. Full airbrakes are to be preferred over the air over hydraulic brakes on the 809series. Even if the transmission and transfer case in the 939's aren't as robust as the 809series.
Cruising speed in a 939 with 11.00R20 tires is 57ish. Super...
I have to ask "to what purpose?"
What will any of these engines do that the OEM cat won't do equally well? (Or close enough to equally well to be indistinguishable in the given usage?)
I could see an engine swap if the existing engine was destroyed and needed replacement.
I can see an...
Since most of them went through rebuild at some point, the original date of manufacture is pretty much irrelevant.
As noted above, TX is "shall issue" for hmmwv titles and tags. No sense paying a premium for already tagged vehicles if you live in TX.
My advice - shop based on condition...
Reset for 939series trucks came in two flavors -
1) RSMS, which was essentially a frame off restoration to as new condition (more or less)
2) IROAN, which was "inspect, replace only as needed".
Data plates which were damaged or faded frequently got replaced. Vehicle serial numbers were...
My guess is it went through reset and got a new data plate then. Frequently they didn't get date stamped.
Best guess says the engine is original to the truck.
Same as a deuce? I may have one in the toolbox in KS. I'll check this weekend. If so, you can borrow it and I'll hand it off when I bring you those axle clamps.
I agree with this. On a hmmwv or a deuce or a 5ton I'd say just go with a 24v through the slave port.
But on the cucv's bastardized 12/24 system I'd charge each separately.
Not a huge difference either way.
Is the goal to recover the numbers? If so, I'd lightly sand until they're visible.
Is the goal to just get rid of the black and make it all tan? A rattlecan of tan paint will provide acceptable results.
I find myself in the unusual position of disagreeing with WillWagner.
Running thimbles alone is generally a bad idea. Here's why-
They weren't designed to be used by themselves and require the outer lug nuts as reinforcement to have the neccessary strength.
The above implies that you could...
The important height measurement is the height of the top of the fuel in the barrel compared to the height of the first place it can leak out of the receiving tank.
Let me emphasize and clarify what I think you're really asking: "when filling with the aux pump and the pump shuts off, is the pump sealed against passive flow of diesel past it?"
Given that your 30 gallon drum is higher than your genset, the aux pump will serve to prime the line and get fuel...
Caution is warranted when turning up the fuel. Doing so means the engine is no longer idiot-proof. It becomes easy to melt the pistons, most especially on long steep hills with a load.
