Not really.
It'll be severely nose-down. Also, going from memory the M1009 is rated for 1200lbs towed load and the M1101 weighs 1480 empty.

I edited my above post to try to make it more clear.
I'd send pics, but I'm in SD and my truck is in KS.
Bottom line - get your positive from the same location that the slave port does, and connect your negative to the truck frame. This presumes nothing has been altered from stock.
So you're wanting about 1200 amps available at 24V?
Positive post of the front battery on the drivers side is your source for 24v.... then the fuse box should have a means to ground to frame.
Make sure your batteries are connected correctly - check against the diagram on the underside of...
One can learn as much or more by answering the questions of others, as by asking questions.
And having these answers out in the open for all to see is the only way to find errors in your own information... someone will point them out for you.
Looks like if it weighs more than 14k you get a complete pass from the state of California -

So the only law you'd be breaking would be emissions tampering, which is extremely unlikely to be enforced against...
This is coming From 3/4 ton and 1ton Cummins powered pickup trucks, noncommercial, used as daily drivers.
(I agree commercial is a completely different game)
I can get you the statute regarding emissions tampering and the $25,000 fine for doing so, or for operating a vehicle after emissions...
You're going to have a hard time getting rid of the DPF in California. You can't legally delete it, and California is one of the places that will inspect to make sure it is present at every registration renewal.
This may effect vehicle choice.
I'm not ready to call him an idiot just yet...
Nobody has ever taught the poor guy, obviously. 20 minutes of instruction would vastly improve performance and prevent equipment damage.
This is how we get those myths of how a hmmwv is no good offroad and easily outperformed by a [insert vehicle...
Different rules for different states. I have recently learned that NE, SD, IA and MN want everything with a GVWR over 8,000lbs, and every pickup truck towing any type of trailer to go through the scales. This is for noncommercial as well as commercial vehicles.
Seriously, they want the mini...
I strongly recommend against that.
If they catch you, it won't be just a fine. They'll impound it and likely damage it in the process. Then you'll have to meet full commercial reg standards to get it back, including having someone with a CDL drive it out of the impound lot (presuming they...
Going through scales when you don't need to may cause its own set of problems. I went through the scales, they stopped me and wanted to see DOT number, authority, etc.
When I explained I was noncommercial the DOT officer told me that by stopping at the scales I had already admitted to being...
The last DOT officer to pull me over commented on my "not for hire" on my pickup truck door. He stated he considers that an admission of guilt and that he pulls over every vehicle he sees with such labeling.
I agree.
This is revenue, not safety, not right/wrong.
The LEO is playing the odds, betting the out of state driver will simply pay rather than spend more to fight it.
