Ken I continue to be impressed with Stan's Headers. The head-side of the manifold flange shows a continuous weld around each tube and ground flat, as well as a rough porting of the inside of each tube to closely match the head ports. Outstanding workmanship in my opinion.
Got my Fluidampr harmonic balancer installed. Getting the stock GEP unit off was easy with a puller which I already had. Installing the Fluidamp was another adventure in itself. I first lightly greased the shaft and inner seal per the instructions, and then slid the Fluidampr onto the crank...
The reason I plan to turn the 3" pipes out in front of the rear tires is to create a slight negative pressure in the system to help pull the exhaust gasses out. I will extend the pipes out to be even with the rear tire face on each side and cut the pipe-ends in-line with the airflow. Might not...
When I get this thing running I will make a video and post it for everyone's enjoyment or dismay.
The collectors are 3". I plan on running 3" straight-through Flowmasters or Magnaflow with a gentle sweep to exit right in front of the rear tires.
Ken; I have owned/installed numerous sets of headers on my cars over the past 50 years but these Stan's Headers are the first on one of my trucks. These things are built tough like the military would build them. The manifold plate is a full 1/4" thick and the tubes are thick and heavy. All...
The GM part number for the original direct drive starter is 14028931. The part number for the newer gear reduction starter is 23502557. New starter bolts are 15544950. The bolt to hold either bracket on us a M8-25x20mm. Use blue LocTite.
Hope this helps.
Had to slightly modify the cast aluminum dust cover but it went on without a hitch. The cover I got off Ebay must have been from a SBC because the opening for the starter hub was too small. My 700R4 also did not have a threaded boss for the bolt over the starter, so I just cut off the top end...
What do you think about abandoning the thought of using the alternator as the signal source and instead use an aftermarket crankshaft position sensor? These are readily available and attach to the timing index plate next to the harmonic balancer.
November 14, 2018 Update -
Got my 700R4 transmission installed. Installed a new Derale pan with cooling tubes. Installed a HMMWV temperature sending unit in the big bung but have ordered new AutoMeter gauges and will install the AutoMeter-specific sending unit in the small bung when it...
Ken if you had your druthers, would you rebuild your original American-made AC Delco alternators or replace them with China-made units? (I think I know your answer, but just checking to see if you are awake).
OK here are a few close-up photos of my new Delco 4000 rpm tach. The little "switch" on the back is actually a plastic plug designed to be inserted or left out. Included in the Delco box with my new tach is a small brown folder with 4 of these plugs. Not sure why there are 4, as only 2 can be...
