GM issued a Dealer Bulletin in 1988 to completely remove that rear proportioning valve. I don't have a copy of the bulletin to attach here, but it is Bulletin 88-320-5 which you should be able to obtain through your local GM dealer. I took mine off and threw it in the dumpster. I also...
Hey Glock - You can't beat an "almost free" 4L80E. You will not be dissappointed. The main reason I went with a 700R4 is because it is a "dumb" unit and does not require any electronics like the 4L80E does. Same reason I decided to continue using the factory mechanical fuel pump instead of...
I installed my first Dana Spicer Trac Loc in a brand new K20 in 1972. I've had many since then. I wouldn't run anything else. The Trac Lok has clutches whiich will slip when turning corners. Remember when turning the "outside" wheel on the front must travel farther than the "inside" wheel to...
I just wanted to post a positive thread about Hillbilly Wizard. I've been getting various parts from John over the past few months and have had excellent results. Recently I purchased a used part from him, and when it came it, it had just a tad bit too much rust pitting for my P400 engine...
You might want to try to crack open the sensor while the system is warm and still under pressure and burp the air out from under the probe. Try this and let us know if that fixes the issue.
Thanks for all the posts. I opened one of the cases and quickly came to the conclusion that I didn't want to tackle the job. Couldn't figure out how to get the rotor out of the front bearing anyway.
So........ I am looking for a source for brand new Delco 27Si isolated ground alternators...
As many of you know I am assembling a new P400 6.5 engine and Bowtie 700R4 transmission for my M1028 rebuild. Every part on the engine is either new or rebuilt and restored to OEM condition. I am not robbing parts off my existing CUCV engine, but instead fitting the new engine with its own...
Now that this thread has come back to life, I will ask the question. I plan to change all my dash bulbs to red LED, so does the GEN2 bulb still need to be different? Also, since LEDs can withstand varying voltage, can the dash light circuit be increased to 24 volt to increase brightness?
Hey I have a stupid question. Are both alternators identical? I understand that the passenger side unit must be isolated ground, and I get that, but can they be interchanged? Are they both 27Si?
And one other thing - my passenger side unit has a condenser on the back, but my drivers side...
Update - obtained a used CUCV power steering unit and rebuilt it. Ordered the USA-made Delphi pump from PSE. Popped out the used pump, cleaned everything, and then installed the new pump into the reservoir tank. If you plan to do this, make certain that you clean off all the old paint, rust...
Now Gimp, you know that "intermittent" is opposed to "continuous". The motor on my big shop air compressor is rated intermittent, while the motor on my building air conditioner is rated for continuous duty. Nobody in their right mind would operate their winch continuous. Heck once I get my...
This thread got me looking at the various winch options, as it is in my plans to install a winch after the P400 and 700R4 has been installed. So for the past few days I have been on the websites of all the big name winch manufacturers, evaluating each company’s line of products. My “want list”...
