    Mep 831A load issues

😆 Smart I don't know about; I think that I'm guilty of being a legend in my own mind, just before I do something really stupid. 🤣 However, "Been there, done that", makes up for a lot in my experience. I'm glad to see that everything cleaned up nicely, without much effort, apparently. All the...

    Mep 831A load issues

I think it never hurts to get familiar with an engine that you might depend upon. I think that these Yanmar engines are neat engines, but that's me. In general, I'm with the Yanmar manual; stop digging when you hit dirt. That said, yes, I think that the valves got unburnt diesel and soot...

TAAADAAA! 🎇🎆🎇 Congratulations. 👍👍 I hope that this fixes it for you. Yes, new tappets and proper valve settings should do a lot for the engine performance. Nice job on the hoses. I am sorry that it so long to surface the bent tappet, but to me a bent tappet would explain the bad valve...

mep803a was generating power to home but not now

Sometimes things are in the manual for a reason...😉. But, yes, the equipment logic does check for sufficient oil pressure. I'm glad that you have it working now. All the best, 2PbFeet

    Mep 831A load issues

Boy that sure looks like a new engine. Nice disassembly job. Did you ever check that the injection pump pin is in the fork, freely moving, and neither is bent? (It is visible under the inspection plate, just below the body of the injection pump.) All the best, 2PbFeet

    Mep 831A load issues

😆 Yes, that sounds like reasonable compression. Well, IIRC, there is a shift in tubing sizes, so you need to account for that, e.g. a reducing/expansion port on one tee, but otherwise, yes the tees are tees. You can check the TM for part numbers and details. I think that the downside to a nice...

    Mep 831A load issues

@grywitt Did you clean the engine off? The cooling fins look brand new. (As in 24hrs new, so believe the hour meter.) I think that getting really black oil out of an engine isn't super unusual- if it has a bunch of hours on it. The carbon never really comes out of the sumps in my experience...

    Mep 831A load issues

That video with the return fuel line not connected and SeaFoam sounds like a much better behaved engine to me. How was the smoke? To me the rerouted fuel lines argues for an air leak. If it were me, I would replace lines and fittings, and look carefully for any fuel weeps. (Brake cleaner, dry...

    Mep 831A load issues

To answer the injector test question, yes, that's sort of how to do it on the machine, but I would do something so you aren't spraying diesel into the muffler insulation. Just sayin... Personally, I like to have the injector clear of the engine, but rags or pig blankets work, too. I've seen...

    Mep 831A load issues

That seems like progress in a number of areas! The rewiring looks nice. Rodents can do amazing amounts of damage in such a short period of time. I would recommend screens to exclude rodents, and mud daubers if this isn't stored somewhere mouse and insect proof. When you get the time and...

    Mep 831A load issues

I hear you on field work and in shop work. If you have cruddy hose, by all means replace it. My experience is that the one thing these engines are quite sensitive to is a little air in the fuel lines. When you had the injection pump out, was the the pin in the fork? (Visible through the access...

    Mep 831A load issues

So, yes, that's more smoke than I would like at the loads you are adding. When you add loads, I can hear the engine respond, and it sounds to me as if it is keeping the rpm's up. The cutout out 3,000W looks from a distance more as if the overload protection kicks in. Are you getting any warning...

It might also reduce the EMI emissions from the unit.

Make one? It doesn't look particularly obscure or fancy. All the best, 2PbFeet

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

@KD7CAO Just a heads up; gun barrels usually have a surface treatment that makes them more corrosion resistant, e.g. bluing, or nitriding. Plain steel, like a valve, will corrode in acids, e.g. CLR, so keep a close eye on the parts if you do use it. Remember the old experiments with Coca-cola...

    MEP-802A no crank/no power

Could you still post a photo of S1? Did you do the S1 installation? As you know S1 has been swapped at once, it might be a reasonable idea to sit down with the manual, pull all the wires off, and rewire it. All the best, 2Pbfeet

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

Yes, heat for the exhaust manifold, but try not to locally get any area too hot as you can warp or crack the casting. To the extent that you can access the spaces, a needle gun will be helpful in the manifold, but I wouldn't try it on anything else. Ditto a carbide die grinder. Glass bead...

Ausgeseignet! I love the tagline: "nie mehr unter hopft..." Nothing quite like fresh, locally brewed beer. All the best, 2Pbfeet

One comment on solar chargers: you might want to consider two 12V wired individually across one battery as that is better at keeping each battery balanced. (Not perfect, and not a huge deal) All the best, 2Pbfeet
