I did a couple of searches to see if this has been answered already, and didn't find anything. So, I'm asking the folks who know about these things if they have any ideas on how to hook up a VIC-1 without running it through the PRC or radio mount.
Here's the set-up:
The PRC-77 is in the back...
Here's a question for all of y'all who let the public onboard your gun trucks. How do you get them into the bed of the truck?
I have been looking at different ladders to let the vets into the bed of The Widow Maker, but haven't had much luck. aua
I need one that is sturdy enough for some...
Well, it seems that I've suffered a setback in building The Widow Maker. The quad mount that I was gathering funds for has been sold.
So, it's back to the drawing board.
If anybody knows where a quad mount is, please pass along the information.
Also, if anybody has the dimesnions...
I'm getting ready to start Phase Two (adding the quads) of The Widow Maker, and need some advice from the Gun Truck guys.
What "accessories" do I need?
Examples are: frag vests, ammo cans, etc. What else?
Also, sources for the stuff would help greatly.
Thanks.
Not wishing to step on anybody's toes here, but I have thinking about building another gun truck. This time, based on an M151. Basically, an armored gun jeep for convoy protection.
I haven't been able to find much information about the armored jeeps from Vietnam. Most of my searches have...
I have been thinking about restoring an M109 back to a radar van. My dad used a similar van to repair Nike missile radar sites back during the Korean War. His van was an M220. Given the shortcomings of that truck, I thought I'd try building it using an M109.
I have the info on the radar...
I was able to find out from the vets that the original radio call sign for The Widow Maker was Gladiator 23 (or 24, 25, depending on the truck number).
The "Gladiator" part comes from she was with "G" Battery, 65th Artillery.
How did Transportation units come up with their radio call signs...
I have been giving this some thought, and decided it might be kind of fun to do. After i finish The Widow Maker, of course.:-P
Anyways, I have contemplating building an armored jeep based on the M151's from Vietnam.
Anybody have any experience with these?
Thoughts? Comments?
Right...
Okay, here's a new question for the Gun Truck crowd: how do you secure auxiliary weapons on or in the truck? These would include personal weapons for the crew, not the main armaments (.50's, M60's, etc.).
I am looking for a way to carry my AirSoft M79 in the cab where it is visible during a...
Being rather new to the deuce world, I have a question I hope that the more informed can help me with.
After driving a deuce for a long enough period to get the temperature up, when I stop for the evening, do I need to idle the truck to drop the temp, or can I shut down without having to do so?
I am contemplating buying a 5-Ton Tractor, but am not sure which series to get - 809 or 939.
Also, I need the capability to haul a commercial lowboy trailer with my other vehciles lashed down to it. Any recommendations on how to do this?
I looked at the M-series lowboy, but I can't fit a...
This may have been answered someplace before, but I will go ahead and ask again, as I couldn't find the answer the first time. :deadhorse:
Does anybody make a simulated firing M60? Not an airsfot or a semi-auto, but a simulated firing model - one that runs on propane/oxygen.
I have checked...
Okay folks, I have some good questions for you.
First, the truck is a 1971 M35A2 with a depot rebuild date of 1989. It has the later engine, the 465 (I thnk) and is a turbo-diesel (a real screamer).
I am converting the truck to Viet Nam for the quad project I am working on. It is not a...
Okay, I realize that this may be in the wrong forum. But, I do know that Rome Plows had some armor on them. :-D
I had the wonderful idea (at 4AM) that I should replicate a Viet Nam era Rome Plow. So, I looked through the web, and found some info. Which is why I am here. To get more info...
What do I need to do to "convert" an M809-series cargo truck to an M54-series cargo truck?
I know I need to move the air cleaner to the opposite fender. Are there any other glaring things I need to do?
I am trying to construct a Viet Nam era gun truck, and have been unsuccessful in...
I am attempting to replicate a Quad 50 gun truck from Viet Nam. Originally, I was planning to use an M809-series 5-ton as I have been unable to find an M39-series 5-ton. However, I have learned that none of the M809-series trucks made it to Viet Nam. And, they would appear too late in the...
Howdy All!
I am doing quite a bit of research on gun trucks in Viet Nam, and have this question: were any M809-series trucks ever used in Viet Nam? If so, which models? Also, were any used as gun trucks?
I am trying to get to the point of actual construction, and have been having a hard...
Question for those who know more than me.
What is a ballpark price to paint a deuce? Also, what about sand-blasting?
I have located two trucks, but both are painted desert tan. After acquisition, I plan to paint them semi-gloss od and letter them for Viet Nam.
Any help on this is greatly...
