    Many M816 Questions

Hello all, I am after some help with my M816 Wrecker. I have bought a wrecker body and the M816 truck separately. I obviously want to put the two together but I am having so much trouble identifying what I have missing in my drive line. Is there a easy explanatory driveline layout showing me...

There's a few of these type of truck here but I doubt the Mack version. I would think that it would be the mining companies here that wanted them as they are so tough and will go just about anywhere. I recently bought a M816 cab chassis and previously found the wrecker body for it. That will be...

Thankyou all for your comments. It's not perfect but quite rare in Australia and I'm happy with the outcome. I just need to find a good old trailer somewhere down here. Colin.

I had a look for the numbers on the chassis rail. Is that where the numbers are suppose to be. Also on No26 picture 1, I have a plate sitting on the rear wheels, can anyone shed some light if it belongs to this truck. It came with it but was not fitted so I'm a bit baffled. Regards Colin.

    Building a Tank??

I built a tank using a normal truck diff and differential steering. A diesel engine running a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor to drive the tail shaft which gave me forward and reverse. I built this for a paintball park here in Australia and it worked very well and was all second hand parts.

Just to go back a touch. I did take off quite a bit to clean, repair and paint.

Thankyou for your response. That certainly makes sense and I'll check the frame. Here's what my truck looks like as of today.

Hello everyone, I need some information please. I'm confused wether my truck is a M52A1 or is it a M818. Mine has the Mack engine with the cut out in the chassis to accommodate the Mack. it has a straight grill and the air filter on the right fender. The original data plate say's it's a M818...

Trip to Coleman's Surplus in Millersburg, PA. Nov. 23, 2013

Wow! we'd give our right arm to get trucks like that so cheap in Australia. Good luck with it. Colin.

Hello everyone, I got my paint back today and It's a great match. My cab is now completed so I now have to do all the bits that go with it and I need a couple of front windows from Dave at Eastern Surplus. Colin.

Now that looks great!! Did you do it all up and is there a thread of it. I want to find a trailer to suit later as I would like to put a M3 Stuart on it as a nice combination. As far as the paint scheme, I took a good sample from under the dash to my paint supplier to get a match for the green...

It is not the prettiest panel you've ever seen but most of it is covered when all fitted and there's no spares down here. That's about where I am to date but I'll take a few more pics after I've finished fitting it today. Colin!

I had to make a bottom type of hammering tool to get the 90 deg bend all along the bottom. I used a piece of 1/2' thick steel and clamped the panel to it then slowly hammered and formed the bottom as close as I could get it.

I am just doing this on my own but I do have some really nice equipment and tools. I would love to have just bought another cab, but i'm sure if you did find one it would be the same or worse than this one. This truck came from Hawaii a few years back and I think is was pretty close to the sea...

The top was a test fit as I had to also make one heater channel. I started this cab last weekend by the way so I've been going at it for a week now.:)

I cut the whole top off as I thought that would have been easier than doing a strip section. I had an old jeep bonnet that I cut down and reshaped.

The pillar top was really bad so that had to be replaced. The other side is still good.
