Hydraulic Assit Steering- Another Idea Never Attempted

Ok, I follow you. I never really thought about setting up the pitman arm for double shear. I guess because that is the way I have always seen pitman arms, I am considering it though. As far as the tie rod is concerned, I like it there for added strength, yes the geometry is a little off, and...

Hydraulic Assit Steering- Another Idea Never Attempted

How would I change the config to load the bolts in double shear?

Hydraulic Assit Steering- Another Idea Never Attempted

Ill post a pic of the steering the truck came with so you can see the trash I had to work with. The new setup is as follows: GM 1 ton box tapped by PSC for hydro assist mounted to a bracket that I fabbed up (pic below). The pitman arm was purchased for the splines, cut, dropped and fabbed out...

Hydraulic Assit Steering- Another Idea Never Attempted

Here are the pics. Since these were taken, I have removed the rear track bar and bulked up the front one some more. Most of the components are PSC. I think I saw something in this thread about possiblity of full hydraulic. DO NOT DO IT, sure it will be easy to turn, but take it out on the road...

Hydraulic Assit Steering- Another Idea Never Attempted

This is just my OPINION. I DO NOT believe that the torque generator going on a M35A2 is a good idea UNLESS you are running stock tires. If you are running the big tires it obviously takes much more force to get them to turn, the torque generator can provide that with ease. However, I think the...

    Problems With 16.00 Tires

Just wanted to give everyone an update in case someone runs into something similar in the future. I got my new wheels from stazworks and got everything mounted up this week. What a difference. The problem ended up being the wheels made by C&C EQUIPMENT. I am extremely disappointed at the quality...

    Problems With 16.00 Tires

I have played with the tire pressure. Originally it was at 100 psi for 3 tires and 80 psi for 1 tire. Extremely brilliant when the dash plate says 50 psi. My truck weighs 12500. I am down to 45 psi and pretty happy with that.......I noticed a bit smoother ride. At this point I am just going to...

    Problems With 16.00 Tires

Just an update of what I have found this weekend in case anyone is interested...... Yesterday, I pulled a tire off of the truck and seperated it from the wheel. Bolted the whell back up and found out that it was approx 1/8 radially out of round (this really isnt a surprise as C and C did such...

    Problems With 16.00 Tires

My only alignment I am aware that I can adjust is toe in and it is good. I am on air ride so I cant shim the springs. I have played with the ride height on the right side to push the axle forward a bit and I have the same results. I can't adjust the camber....... The steering wheel returns...

    Problems With 16.00 Tires

There is no water in there. I have already seperated to look inside. The shake is too bad to be a balance issue......There is a high spot, I have placed a straight edge by the tires and spun them......I'd say its close to 1/4". Its almost as if its belt seperation. The mfg date on the tires is...

    Problems With 16.00 Tires

Good morning, I have been having a problem with a bad vibration on my M35A2. Its a "baby" death wobble that kicks in at about 50 mph. The truck has had it since I bought it.....I recently redesigned the steering system and made some changes to the suspension as well. I thought this may fix the...

    24VDC power steering m35a2

Kohburn, I really cant answer that question. I have never ridden in one with leaf springs. I can tell you this.....when I first bought the truck it rode horribly. It is MUCH better now that I have the steering in as well as things properly adjusted. I still have a noticible vibration around 55...

    24VDC power steering m35a2

Rick, all Hi-Steer set ups that I have seen are similair to this. Plus in all pitman arm steering setups the drag link is anchored on one side. ALso PSC designs their rams to be used this way where they attach to the knuckle. The bolts are 3/4 grade 8 due to the high misalignment spacers. You...

    24VDC power steering m35a2

Each of those heims are rated at 107,000 lbs. I figured that would be more than enough. You also have to realize there is a 3" hydraulic ram behind the front tie rod. It does most of the work and if I had to take a guess I would say that it puts out 2.5-3x as much as the steering box.

    24VDC power steering m35a2

Here is my setup. Was a ton of work. Im still working small bugs out of it, but for the most part complete. I will start a thread when I get everything worked out.

    New Deuce owner in Houston

Welcome. I live up in Montgomery, just west of Lake Conroe. I don't know anyone who works on them, you may be lucky finding someone who is willing to touch it. If you need a hand, you can always let me know. Gungearz, there is a gear upgrade for the axles made by Overusion Engineering. I...

Bobbed m35 with air bag suspension

THe only "Ghetto Engineering" and breaking things, was from when the truck was built. Think about it.........You cant expect a sway bar link built out of 1/2 heim jts to actully hold on a 12,000lb vehicle. My daily driver Ford Ranger that weighs 3500 lbs has 1/2" (excuse me I mean 13mm) bolts...

Bobbed m35 with air bag suspension

I am just going to say no comment on some of the comments that have been made. Fordmechanic, yes you are right sway bar is a good idea. I have a sway bar already, and it does a pretty good job of fixing body roll while driving. One problem is the the links on the sway bar are only made of 1/2"...
