    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

Darn it, lost most of my text when I tried to post... I was saying one time I came downhill in the rain in my (not military) dump truck, with the bed empty and towing a 30k trailer with a pintle hitch & dolly. Using the jake brakes coming up to a switchback I tried to brake and it took almost no...

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

Yea i think the converter doesn't release fast enough, it stalls the engine, then loses oil pressure so the engine remains stalled, then you lose power steering and have to shift to neutral to start the engine again. That's too much stuff to do when doing a panic stop... particularly for...

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

I think the transmission locking is a defect. A panic stop will not cause the transmission to lock. As I understand the problem, it's the other way around - if the transmission malfunctions and locks, then when you try to slow down to go around the corner, the engine will reach idle speed and...

    Brake problem

Try again tomorrow. If the brakes are spongy again the next day you still have air in the system.

    Bought an M925A1 - dropped a valve?

Thanks for following up guys! I haven't had a chance to open the engine up yet. First step will be to try and figure out which cylinder(s) we are talking about.. are there any tricks to disable cylinders one by one? Seems like you have to pull the valve covers one by one and see if there's a way...

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

Drifting off topic here, but I found the following map somewhat useful. It says which states have their own commercial inspection program. The green states that do NOT have their own program, simply require that you get a federal USDOT number, and you deal with them for compliance. This...

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

BTW I always thought that the $750k liability requirement applied to all heavy trucks but it looks like this too is not the case. I talked to my insurance co Progressive and I could lower my insurance from $1200 to $300 by only taking the minimum required. (I struck a middle ground, the minimum...

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

Also beware of other regs, one time I was picking something up (a bulldozer) in california with my semi truck and they pulled me at the scales. Turns out there you have to keep a time cards even on personally owned trucks. The cops were real nice, since I have a sleeper cab they considered it...

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

In illinois you have to do everything and are allowed nothing!

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

I think the _rating_ on a 929 is over 26k though. Yea if the empty weight is 25888 then you're kind of screwed, most vehicles "empty" is w/o fluids I would have it weighed. Call the highway patrol and ask if you register at 26k and operate below that, can you drive it?

923 4 battery setup need 12volt tap only 4 winch

The equalizer will either not keep up or burn itself up trying. Why not a 24v winch? Those are better anyway , particularly for heavy vehicles. Even folks with full size pickups find themselves testing the limits of what 12v can do for you

    Brake problem

I know the low air pressure alarm switches can do this, they will leak air and the alarm will stay on. I haven't had them burn up, actually they can't because they just ground the wire from the buzzer. Could you not just feel around with your fingers to find the air leak? This is why these...

    M923 Crew Cab anyone?

Speaking of bobbing, Some states like california allow up to 26k gvw on a regular license only if it is a 2-axle truck. I know in ca with a 3-axle truck anything over 6k gvw needs cdl.

    M939/A1/A2 ABS vs. Non-ABS Trucks

Yea. On these trucks there is a label that you cannot reverse in low range. Wtf...

    M923 Crew Cab anyone?

When I wanted to get my cdl it took a long time to find someone to help. The trucking schools wanted like 5 grand and a 3 week program. I had a full time job, I can't just take 3 weeks off! I eventually found an owner operator who let me use her truck on the weekends and for the driving test, I...

    M923 Crew Cab anyone?

Slick !! I would get the cdl anyway, you never know when it will come in handy. And it's not always easy to get, since you need a suitable truck, insurance, and driver to go with you.

    Deuce (or 5 ton) RV

You need a lot more fender clearance than that in the back, those rear axles can come up a lot!

    Deuce (or 5 ton) RV

Can you photoshop an M925 and a ford E350 motorhome? So I can show my wife <grin>

    Deuce (or 5 ton) RV

This is exactly what I had in mind for my rv! But then getting into the details I realized it's not trivial (=gross understatement) doing all the steering, gauges, brakes, cutting the floor for a whopping doghouse, dealing with 2 frames etc, I ended up deciding I will use either a camper trailer...
