Just a few reasons it's good to own a CUCV...

I thought that went without saying for any truck that comes standard with a rifle rack behind the seat.;-)

    She saved my life

Might I suggest a little forklift safety video? English subtitles, but... very educational. [thumbzup]

    Smokin'!

Yeah, I found it odd too, I would have figured if the driver's side wheel was having trouble it would pull left. Guess it's a good thing I don't need the truck to get home tonight.

    Smokin'!

Just drove my 09 for the first time in a couple of months. It seemed to be just fine the last time I drove it, but today I drove it the ~7 miles to work, and I started having some trouble. About halfway through the drive I started to notice a faint burning smell that I couldn't identify. I got...

    Radiator on the cheap?

I just got a quote for more than that for a used take-off, + $100 for shipping! rofl Think I've got a good line on one for $75 +ship though, so hopefully I won't be carrying water jugs everywhere I go for too long.

    Radiator on the cheap?

The patch job I did a year ago on my leaking radiator didn't survive the winter, and it looks like I'm about to have to drive the truck a lot more. I can probably get by lugging a massive supply of water around with me, but I need to replace it sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, I don't...

Just a few reasons it's good to own a CUCV...

When you live in a neighborhood in Boston where people mark off the street parking spot they shoveled and there's always the one jerk who steals people's spots anyway, all you have to do is drive over the snow a few times instead of shoveling it, and now nobody else can shovel out the packed...

    Not turning over

It's the black cable from the solenoid to the case of the starter. I assaulted it with solder until it wouldn't wiggle anymore and sure enough, truck started up on the first try.

    Not turning over

Finally have weather conducive to working on a truck outside, and I've got the starter down. The ground strap doesn't look too good, the end on the starter looks pretty frayed. I tried crossing the solenoid posts with a screwdriver once I got it down (I can't reach the dang things when it's in...

    Not turning over

The lights dim slightly, guess I'll be pulling the less than a year old starter again. I distinctly remember the starter being a godawful PITA to pull, too. :?

    Not turning over

Probably should have mentioned, the batteries are brand new as of two months ago (the big yellow Wal-Mart ones) and the starter is less than a year old.

    Not turning over

Last night, my M1009 decided to quit on me (again), naturally right before leaving for a night on the town. I waited for the glow plugs, turned the key, and all I got was a *click* sound. Now, it used to do the same thing when one of my battery terminals wasn't so good and it came loose, but I...

    More glow plug questions

I wired up the new relay, and it took a half a second of cranking to fire up. [thumbzup]

    More glow plug questions

Well, it looks like I've finally got an answer, thanks to a long overdue new multimeter. I've got voltage on the orange relay lead with the key in "off" position, so I'll be buying a new relay tomorrow.

    More glow plug questions

So if the controller is the problem, the safer method won't do anything? What I'm getting is the Wait light turning on, staying on a little longer than usual (usually shuts off before the "clunk", now shuts off after), and apparently no power to the plugs. I just checked, and it doesn't look...

    More glow plug questions

I've got a new set of 070 plugs in my truck but it's looking like they're not getting power. I need to get a new multimeter to confirm that, but I'm about 90% certain of it at this point. I'm planning on doing the manual glow plug switch fix (simple version with blue wire to switch). In the...

    And now, glow plugs.

Still having starting trouble with the 1009, even after sorting out the air problem (I think). I decided to go ahead and check the glow plugs, two on the passenger's side failed test light check. Am I correct in assuming that even one dead plug can make starting difficult/impossible?

    Air in fuel AGAIN

No dice! I cranked this morning until the battery was dead, and it only even sounded like it wanted to start up once. I cracked the bleeder a couple of times to see what was going on, and there was much much much less air in there this time, just a couple bubbles here and there. I might have a...

    Air in fuel AGAIN

Sealed up the sensor hole and got her started again... ran rough again for a minute when I started out, but I assume it could have still been chucking out some air I missed. Seemed to run great after warming up, no surging or stalling. The real test is gonna be in the morning after it's had time...

    Air in fuel AGAIN

Where is that connection, and what can I do about it?
