Mystery Air Leak behind cab of M35A3

Thanks for the note. I've dug into the manuals and found diagrams of the brake system. Find no troubleshooting logic yet or anything telling how the system works. Still looking. Amazing that the little tube completely vents all the air pressure to the brake system. It's only about 1/4 inch...

Mystery Air Leak behind cab of M35A3

Have been researching the manuals but haven't yet found info regarding a couple of small plastic lines coming downward from the back of the cab. One is venting huge amounts of air and the loss prevents the brakes from working. Have verified that the air tanks are fine. Am continuing to search...

How to build a sway bar stabilizer?

I posted previously that I needed a couple of Stabilizer Bushings, part number 12378806 NSN 3120-01-457-9719, for the M1079 that I recovered a week ago or so. See figure 182 item 13 of the LMTV 9-2320-365-24P manual. We would probably call the stabilizer a "sway bar." The hoops that those...

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

Update: Succeeded in replacing the planetary gears with take-offs from an MRAP axle. Good. Turns out missing bolts and alternator bracket seem related to water pump problem. Gasket leaked. Cut a new one and it failed so we got a proper one from Cat and it holds. Engine knocks a few...

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

    The manual says it's 5120-01-335-0784.

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

Wheel bearing nut size for LMTV Am working to gather tools for the M1079 that suffered hub failure during recovery. It's shown as appendix B item 70, but the size isn't noted. It's used to remove/install item 35 of figure 132... the wheel bearing nut. Does anybody know what the size is of...

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

Good point. I'll work like **** to avoid flat towing it. Perhaps it'd be practical to take along a towbar so a third party could tow it if need be. Might just be cheaper to find a bobtail heading back my way than to make another trip with my own. Thanks much. Mark3395

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

Hi NDT I also think that the filings can't get through, but it is the shock loading I wonder a out... If it can go wrong it'll happen to me. I'll check into getting new bearings or pulling them from another axle. And thanks for the note re flat towing as well. I'm well set up to do that if...

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

OK time for an update. I submitted a claim to IronPlanet for repair parts, mechanic, and tow and they have reacted positively... reimbursing me for my claim minus the $750 deductible. I'm very pleased with their reaction. I'll post more later, with lessons learned (for both sides). My plan...

    LMTV towbar pin SIZE

Thanks for the excellent info guys. I think I've got some 15/16 pins in the motor pool and will take them if I resort to a flat tow. Am still considering taking a 923A1 to both carry parts and flat tow if needed vs Dodge Ram with a trailer to carry parts. In any case I have good info to...

Will STANDARD medium towbar pull LMTV?

WITHOUT DAMAGING THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK OR THE BUMPER? Oops... sorry for the caps.

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

Have gone over the 24p manual hoping that much in the line of parts can be salvaged from rear axles. I see wonderful crossover, but it seems that shim kits are needed to get parts to fit in various wheel assemblies. NDT has some parts available and I'm continuing to research. Next is a trip...

    M1079 Right Front hub failure

M1079 Right Front hub failure update... and more OK, I have a good update of the long saga of the troubled recovery of my M1079 van. I need more parts but the main battle is won. Picked it up at Ft. Riley... and it was noisy as I drove. Seemed to be a lot of noise (of which more later) and...

    Towing a M146 with a M931A1 ?

I've lowered the feet to clear the tread but expect to find that it leaves them so low they smack the ground. 1400s on the trailer might help? The large angle of the trailer really stresses the kingpin on turns so I removed the wedges of the 5th wheel to allow it to articulate.

Can you use old rancid diesel fuel?

I've drained the nasty smelly fuel from a few deuces and have several hundred gallons. My thought is to poison the biologicals and filter and/or centrifuge it, add some conditioner, thin it with some good fuel, and run it. Anybody done that? What do you think? Mark

    #&^%@@$ Beadlocks

Oops. Posted this twice by mistake. So I've killed this one off. But as long as you're here: Duck walks into a bar, looks up at the bartender and says "Got any grapes?" Bartender says "**** no, this is a bar. We don't have any grapes." Duck leaves. Comes back the next day, looks up at...

    #&^%@@$ Beadlocks

Have the misfortune of needing to replace some damaged 14.50s on a few A3s. Fortunately I have a great wheel balancer to help change them. Well, I bought it from GL Lockbourne off a bad photo and it turned out to be a huge tire changer. Took it anyway. Anyway with the help of a muscular...

    Advice rebuilding Allison 1545 Tranny?

Yes, getting the thing out was a pain, but it's on a pallet now. Have a small rotisserie that I'll use to hold and rotae the tranny during work. The main issue remains finding the best rebuild kit and any tricks/tools to the job. Mark
