    MEP-802a cold weather starting

I gave an 802 and an 002a, they both suck in cold weather. I keep the batteries charged and keep a propane heater on them if I need them to run. And the preheaters all work, so anyone that says I have something wrong is full of male bovine feces.

MEP-002A quit generating under full load. Where to start

Unfortunately, there is not an "easy" solution to this. The issue could be many things from a damaged voltage regulator to a shorted stator, etc, etc, etc. If one looks at the symptoms that lead to this issue (generator under load that is working normally>then boggs down as it struggles to deal...

How much power (kw's) do I need for my home?

Excellent post. Energy conservation is the key whether living off grid or on grid during a power outage. We live a modern lifestyle with a 600 watt hydroelectric turbine and a 5KW MEP 002a back up. We have a gas stove, dryer and water heater, leave the lights on when we want (albeit they are...

Which Diesel Generator Would You Recommend or NOT Recommend?????

OK this thread is getting silly and is starting to bore me. I live off the grid and use a MEP 002A as a back up to our hydroelectric turbine. Anyone that can't get by with a 5KW generator when the grid goes down needs to have a serious conversation with the wife and kids about hair dryers...

Picked up 6 MEP-802A gensets and will be documenting making them all runners here

This all seemed too ambitious from the get go. I hope that I am wrong but I bet someone bit off more than they bargained for?? I got my 802a up, running and making power but it was a PITA and a project that I won't tackle again any time soon.

Picked up 6 MEP-802A gensets and will be documenting making them all runners here

I too would like an update please. I've Ben lurking on this thread with great interest while I got my own 802a up and running. I have it running and making electricity after replacing a shorted stator. I'm quite honestly a little pessimistic that Peter will get these going, knowing how much...

    Mep-802a overload capacity

I have an 802 that struggles at 4kw (80%) I guess I need to check the injectors. I just last week picked up an 002 with 3 hours on the clock, I wiped out the tank, topped off the oil, it had fresh filters and cranked it for about 15 seconds. She runs like a top and doesn't even flinch at loads...

    MEP802 short circuit?

Maybe it finally dried out as the initial posts were concerned about?

    Mep-802a glow plug source?

Does anyone have a source or part number for the glow plugs? thanks!

    MEP-802a power generation?

Yes plenty of smoke and fuel, good idea on not trusting the load meter. I will check the load another way, now that you mention it , I guestimate that I had closer to 100-110% load on it. what should the 802s act like at 100-110% load?

    MEP-802a power generation?

I have the 802 that when load tested keeps up just fine until at about 70 of capacity, then it bogs down. Anyone have any ideas, pull the injectors and pump maybe to have them tested, other thoughts?

    MEP802 short circuit?

All true Ratch, but if you get water in the generator end it self the short light will commonly come on. It expected that these units will set out in the weather unprotected, that is what they are designed to do.

    MEP802 short circuit?

What you are seeing is a pretty common problem with the 800 series gen sets when they get wet. Put a fan on it for a couple of days to dry it out, many times they will fix themselves when they dry out. Good luck.

Any one with 802 / 803 still not running or given up??

So after a new voltage regulator and stator, she runs and makes electricity as she should. Now the hard part, putting the sheet metal back together with the 1000 little bolts. The engine ran fine from day 1, my issues were all electrical generation.

Any one with 802 / 803 still not running or given up??

I have an 802 that runs excellent but doesn't yet make power, I have replaced the defective parts and am in the process of putting it all back together. Keeping my fingers crossed that by this time next week it is all good.
