    M101 A2 Helper springs

Yes it sure is. All I did was trim/grind the u-bolt plate area of the axle casting a little bit to use it for a spring perch. It took about ten minutes with a 4" side grinder. Once you do that, a common set of u-bolts and spring plates for a 7K rated axle fastens it all up. There is even a...

    New M101 build

I think your efforts resulted in a fantastic trailer - I am jealous how straight your box is! It is surprising how quickly the weight stacks up on a trailer build, even when you are trying to keep it down. I used to own one of those cheapie 4x6 angle iron utilities you get at Tractor Supply...

    New M101 build

That came in a little heavier than you were after didn't it? I am kind of surprised it weighs that much with your custom frame. Mine is only 250 lbs heavier with the axle swap on the original frame. As an aside, you aren't technically legal with just those mini LED side markers. They don't...

    m101 Axle

I know that the hydro brakes will bolt right up to the brake flange on a new civvie axle. The drum/hubs however may not. I tried to do the opposite (old axle, new electric brakes and matching drum/hubs) and the spindles on my mid 80s A2 axle were shorter than what newer standard trailer stuff...

    M101 Cargo Box Weight

Well, I answered my own question today. In case anyone is interested, the cargo box from my M101A2 trailer weighs 400 lbs.

    1952 M101 clearance lights

Well, at the risk of being contrary Nick also stated, "Ive been thinking of whether I wanna put the typical truck trailer side markers on or not. I dont think it would be original, but whatta ya all think??" That was why I attached the current FMVSS for trailers; I know it isn't original to...

    1952 M101 clearance lights

Nick, I don't think the FMVSS for trailers makes exceptions for age. Trailer Poster Table for Website Trailers M101 sized require front and rear marker lights as well as reflectors in addition to the rear lights and license illumination. I kind of want to just run tail lights, license...

    m101 Axle

I know that the A2 axle had similar bearings but heavier wall tubing than my 5.2K trailer axle. I would say the military axle compares favorably to a 6 or 7K trailer axle.

    m101 Axle

I hope to get the box and tailgate back on the chassis here shortly and will weigh it. If you are right about that 300-350, I will be a happy camper. I like your approach, what springs are you going to use? I have often thought that these trailers and the M105s are stout enough to be run...

    m101 Axle

hmmm.... that's bad luck. I have had four trailers with the ez-lubes and never pushed grease past the seals. Mine have all used double lip seal; I wonder if your friend's trailer did?

    m101 Axle

That should come out very nice - I probably should have chosen the 3.5k axle, but I started down an 8 lug path and just stuck with it. Are you going to build a custom frame for a M101 box? I imagine that will cut down a lot of weight. I JUST weighed my chassis w/o box and it came in @ 620...

    m101 Axle

I ordered a 5.2K axle from ABC Trailer for mine, it's a slick swap. 62" hub face and I am pretty sure it's 43.25" spring center to spring center. I highly recommend you spend the extra ten bucks for EZ-lube spindles. With those, it is no longer necessary to pull the bearings for normal...

m101a2 surge removal and conersion to straight lunet?

The surge coupler and standard lunette assembly are indeed interchangeable. I suspect someone here might be interested in a trade.

    M101 Cargo Box Weight

Thanks for your response. That tech pub data really leads to my question. It appears to me that the M116A2/3 weights listed (780 or 800 lbs.) include the steel flat deck w/fenders. IF that is the case, the bed is something less than the 540 lbs. calculated weight.

    M101 Cargo Box Weight

Does anyone know the correct weight of just the cargo bed for the M101 series trailers? Or, alternatively how about the flatbed deck that is commonly found on the M116? Thanks

    M101 A2 Helper springs

Well the pair Saturn sent me were NOS. They has some very slight surface rust from storage but were otherwise perfect. The bushings were even protected with nylon inserts. For the price, I don't see how you can go wrong.

    M101 A2 Helper springs

I would look at the pre-2005 Toyota helper springs. That should get you real close to the correct width/length dimension for the M101 main leaf. These would probably work: Toyota Helper Springs - 1972-2004 Toyota Pickup & Tacoma 2wd - 1500 lbs helper springs personally not a big fan of...

    M101 A2 Helper springs

I replaced the five leaf original springs on my A2 with the heavier duty six leaf packs from Saturn Surplus at $60 each plus shipping. I added a photo of one of those springs. It also shows how you can do a spring under axle conversion with very little effort. To answer your original...

Is this an A2 or A3? Advice is good

You might think of removing at least half of the leafs while you are doing the axle swap. Those M105 spring packs are enormous. I am jealous of your view, BTW. I can't wait to get back West in a couple of years.

    Tie down anchors

To be honest with you, I have no idea why they might be different. The rear most cross member (where the clevis mounts were) was heavily damaged when I bought the trailer. It appeared that Private Snuffy had tried to pull the trailer over rough terrain with the landing leg deployed. Since I...
