Hubs - how hot is too hot?

Hi CMPPhil, the roads I drove on had very little road crown (mostly urban roads and autobahn). @ Gringeltaube: I used the seals that were already on the truck. But I have no idea if they are new or old. I guess they are old, because the truck showed signs of neglect when I bought it... I check...

Hubs - how hot is too hot?

Experts, just want to share what happened: Loosening the nut on the hottest hub led to nothing. So I went on my Trip. After 50km the right two hubs were really hot, cheched with an infrared Thermometer. But then, the temperature started to drop. Now, after a 1500km Trip, the right hubs are still...

Hubs - how hot is too hot?

Experts, what I will do on saturday: - check the bearing for slight play by wobbling on wheel - keep an eye on the temp - drive for 100~200km I will have new bearings with me so in case things get worse, I can change them for new ones. But I suspect the seal, because the rise in temp is only on...

Hubs - how hot is too hot?

Hi and thanks for your reply. Regarding the seals, I dont know. I used the ones that were already on the truck as they were not leaking too badly. Put in RTV instead of the cork, all tires are same size and new, the vents are new, the star washers are new... I dont know what GAA is, but I assume...

Hubs - how hot is too hot?

Hey folks, I recently did a brake service and bearing repacking job on my Deuce rear axles. The right two hubs on the rear axles run remarkably hotter than all the other hubs on the truck. I noticed there is a thread on hubs running hot, but what temperature is tolerable and what is too hot...

    M35a2 oils

@ all those guys where LiquiMoly is available: I wrote a query to LM today regarding their LIQUI MOLY TOURING HIGH TECH 20W-50, Art. 1255. The response came within a few hours: The oil contains around 1000ppm of Zn. To increase the amount of Zn, the Engineer recommended adding 4% of...

    Spicer 3053A shifting problems

@brianp, mine does not like that shift too, but there was also a lot of synchronizer gold in the oil when I changed it... I think I will do an overhaul in winter... Arno

    M35a2 oils

Experts, would someone with knowledge please shed some light on this: I have changed the oil in the transmission and replaced it with synthetic LiquiMoly 75W90 GL5 MIL-L-2105C/D Oil 1415 Apart from the manual asking for 80W90, am I right to assume that complying with the MIL-spec means the oil...

jerking at partial load, where to look?

Yes those suggestions make sense... what I will do next is (after running the tank empty to less that 25l) drain the tank, filter what I have drained, clean the tank, disconnect the fuel lines and clean with compressed air and probably change the filters (at least the primary) one more time...

    Introduction to Steel Soldiers

It was not very difficult... I had a test report from the 'TÜV' (the authority that checks cars bi-annually to see if they are roadworthy) stating my truck was a classic car. That is why I have the trailing 'H' on my licence plate - which also means the truck insures for something around 160€...

jerking at partial load, where to look?

    Introduction to Steel Soldiers

Hey Folks, I brought my Deuce home around three weeks ago, time for an introduction... It seems the truck has left the army around 1998 and had various private owners since. Got it from a guy who runs a shop around US trucks where I once mentioned that if he had a decent cargo truck, I would be...

jerking at partial load, where to look?

Hi gimpyrobb, maybe I should have been more specific, the obvious stuff is exactly that, obvious... Can you recommend a good way to clean the tank? Chemically? Or with gasoline? Steam cleaner? How about rust treatment? Maybe I ask the guys at the local farming machine garage... There are tank...

    Fuel filter o ring help

I installed the WIX 33511 as primary and 33512 as secondary & final. The seals are a bit too small, so I stretched them a bit by placing it over the engine oil filter canister for a couple of minutes... (I was in need of a new seal because the old one was already very brittle...) Greets Arno

jerking at partial load, where to look?

fixed... Thanks to all, the problem was cured by changing the fuel filters. I have never before seen a comparable amount of dirt, water and rust in a fuel filter... all three filters were contaminated. It is surprising that the truck ran at all... Sooooo, next question, how to clean the fuel...

jerking at partial load, where to look?

Hey Folks, I ordered a set of fuel filters and will change them as soon as they arrive. Will also check everything visually, maybe the problem is also related to the link between accelerator pedal and injection pump as the linkage hat a lot of play - maybe it is assembled incorrectly... one...

jerking at partial load, where to look?

Experts, I have brought home my 1969 M35A2 on monday. Although it pulls with a lot of strength (I can pass other trucks uphill easily, when I run it at partial load (cruising at constant speed), it starts jerking a lot (regardless of engine RPM). I am quite sure it is related to the fuel system...
