Interesting! I guess its not a real M38 then. I am almost certain it is the L134 as the top of the engine is flat with the spark plugs right on top. The carb appears to be some kind of water tight setup. There is also an odd tube with a valve between the intake and the carb that goes to the oil...
I am a complete Jeep newb and need help. My mix of civi and military 1956 M38 with the L134 is now running. The points had some pitting so I sanded them down and reinstalled which brought the spark back. The person who helped me thought that there should be a resistor inline so that once the...
Thanks everyone! I bet the comment on the surprise is what got me. I will try and contact him before next year and if he is local make a relationship. I dont see how using two chains could possibly damage the sled. There were some pretty sketchy hobbled together giant tractors pulling it that night.
The story: We were on time for the pull and waited 1.5 hours for our turn. We went to warm up the trucks as the semi class was called. An official told us that we could NOT pull due to insurance reasons. That was a reversal of all previous discussions. Brian and I went and talked to the track...
No joke? It has some pretty bad rust on one of the tubes, the little tool box lid has the hinges rusted off, and it currently does not rotate. Something is binding it up. I am sure time, grease, and going through the gear boxes will make it work again.
Thanks for the kind words. As my post said I have spent hours on this topic, and probably several days joy reading. The manual does not say do XX when pull XX dead weight. It just gives very broad suggestions. But reading is always very different that doing and the hands on experience.
I am going to pull in the local fair to help generate publicity for our yearly veterans day parade. Since I have never pulled anything with the truck I am looking for advice from those who have, or who used them in the service. I have been reading the TM Operators manual for the past few hours...
Before I drove home, I did check under it and greased everything. The two or more tubes under it are very clean and barely had any residue or crud on/in them from what I could see on the floor with a flashlight.
Where is the draft tube?
The company that had it before me literally only drive it to there garage and stored it for three years. When I got it the thing had 600 hrs and 3000 or so miles was overhauld in 2005 by Oshkosh. They had it in their main shop for the weekend before I got it. I dont...
Need help with the 8V92 in the HET. Had the first convoy to raise money for the veterans parade today. Since the truck is new to me there are still some issues. I noticed on the way home the dip stick came open and splattered some oil on the side of the truck. I wrote it off as I must not have...
Thanks for the help! I ended up ordering 1 gallon of green for the inside of the cab. 5 Gallons of tan, and three gallons of the red oxide primer. It is the water based CARC. The only thing that requires catalyst is the primer. I will post pics when it is done. Should be blasted in the next few...
I need some pointers. The M925 that I am restoring is getting expensive and over the top. I am trying to keep it as correct as possible and have replaced just about anything that shows wear. This truck will be used for veterans events and shows. Might be used in a natural emergency or crisis as...
Yeah. As I learn more about it I plan on switching tubs and everything back to as factory as possible. But first step is getting it to run and figuring out what I actually have.
