    Yet another charging system thread.

Problem solved, though I’m not exactly sure how this came about. Things were fine till one day on the way home she quit charging. I “think” my first investigation must have had me quick checking relays, which didn’t solve the problem. When I popped the cab I saw my alternator bolt, the big...

    Yet another charging system thread.

So my alternator quit charging. According to the manufacturer trouble shooting procedure my alternator and regulator are good. If I jump 24V to the ENG term on the regulator everything charges fine, which says regulator and alternator are functioning as advertised. My oil pressure reads good...

Since we're sort of on the subject....How does one tell when their membership is due to expire?

Back in The Day we called that a DuPont Rebuild.

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

Well NASA described it as powerful, so that’s good enough for me. Remote region of Canada? It was the entire province of Quebec, almost 2.5x the size of Texas, almost 3x the size of France. Not sure how they feel about being “remote”, Quebec City, Montreal and all that. Can it happen? Of...

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

I don't really see that as making the case. An our long HF blackout, no matter how extensive, doesn't strike me as armageddon. As far as a "grid ending" solar CME, it's already happened. In 1989 one of the largest known ejections in modern history knocked the entire province of Quebec off...

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

I've said my bit on this subject, and since it's not my money being spent, more power to whomever. I've done enough research to be satisfied that an EMP attack is so low on the list of things to worry about as to not even be an issue. Research that didnt come from websites with Prep, Survive...

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

Its not the EMP that will get you, it’s the significant nuclear blast needed to generate an EMP strong enough to actually kill a vehicle. If it’s close enough and big enough to kill your vehicle, it’s going to kill you in it.

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

If it’s strong enough to affect vehicles in any serious way it’ll likely kill YOU outright.

    M1078 remove 2 batteries

Thanks for that. Btw, what is that plug with coiled cable in the middle of the battery hold down? Looks like big old style 12V cigarette lighter plug.

Where did you mount the solar panel?

    M1078 remove 2 batteries

Since someone else revived this Zombie thread, I dont have to feel guilty so..... Its giving me a headache. My supposedly new 6TLs took a dump. I'm still trying to work out which of the 4, if any, are still viable but in any case will drop down to a 2 batt config. At least for now...

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

I'm down with the spares, though on this particular ride I haven't gotten to that point yet. I'm still at the point of replacing, if I can just get the TIME these days.

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

I figured one example is enough. The Carrington event, just like the one I mentioned in Canada, is not the type of EMP pulse that is going to burn out electronics. It takes out large electrical grids. Those with miles and miles and miles of wire, which act like a sponge to absorb the energy...

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

The Gub'ment wouldn't even wait for it to "pop". An ICBM designed specifically for an EMP strike would be indistinguishable from a standard nuclear attack. IOW, WWIII has already started. Plus EMP events are some of the most over-hyped "problems" in the survival circles. Problem 1 I just...

Starting an LMTV in the cold is like

I know I’m supposed to be offended on somebodies behalf, but damn that’s funny. Oh, you should be ashamed..or something..blah blah.

    Sway bar bushings

I’m not sure what’s left of mine. They just got a cursory glance while I was doing other stuff, because I’d just watched someone’s video about changing them out. Same with the cab bushings, but kind of odd in that case. The uppers look practically new. The lowers have left the building...

    Sway bar bushings

🤷🏻‍♂️ Didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers, and my comment was about their parts in general, not the bushings specifically. A lot of that stuff they’ve got posted is being done cheaper, or at least sold cheaper, and fairly readily available. There are things being sold by places I won’t...
