    Did something dumb...

STATUS UPDATE- Removed the keyless killswitch and rewired to stock0=- HMMWV OPERATIONAL. Thanks for the extra brain power!

    Did something dumb...

I agree with you- all too often I have seen completely over-accessorized trucks (not just hmmwvs either). Mine is actually really stock. original seats, same military tires, and a Vic-1 com. setup. Aside from upgrading the grounding harness, headlights, and adding optima batteries- I've pretty...

    Did something dumb...

The keyless thingy is just one of those key-fob RFID keyless ignition switches that I got on Flea-bay awhile back. I'm going to remove that and return to stock for testing/troubleshooting ignition. I do not know which EESS box I have as of yet- working on it tonite- will update. Thanks for the help!

    Did something dumb...

Yes, it did make a pretty awful noise, kind of a low rumbling, almost like the fans kicking on- not that they did- but along the lines of a growl. Disconnecting the battery and waiting awhile didn't solve the problem.

    Did something dumb...

It’s in neutral. I also have a keyless shutoff switch installed- I’m thinking that’s ok though because if it were fried the wait light wouldn’t come on at all-

    Did something dumb...

So... Yesterday I hit the start lever on my hmmwv while it was already running. I was goofing around driving off road in the dark of night with no lights on, and instead of turning the lights on, I hit the wrong lever and engaged the start lever for a few seconds. Now, of course, after turning...

    Glow Plugs

Hey I'm about to start in on replacing my first set of glow plugs on the old green '89 m998 6.2l! I bought some wellman plugs and a BDog custom plug puller (just in case). I have no idea how old the plugs in there are- but the tell to me is more rough, long starts and smoke on startups in the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I just swapped out the bulbs. noticeable difference- planning on swapping out all the rest. Now I'm looking around for lower lumen led for black/out and side markers. The 2 leds I used for tail lights were 650 and 5000 or something.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I'm with you on this Gear... Joking or not, wouldn't any of us here be hesitant to sell a hmmwv to someone who says that their "high-school kid's gonna love driving this." Or some other person oblivious to the inherent dangers of driving a military hmmwv- they're not toys. How many threads here...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I do not know the id for led equivalent. I would imagine you could use the 12v #1156 number to find a 24v led equivalent led "bulb" for the turn/brake light. I cant remember off hand what the 12v equvalent number is for those smaller 623's...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

LIGHT BULBS Last weekend I chased down new tail light bulbs for an M1101 trailer that I had to convert back to 24v- for use with my M998. Because the tail light fixtures are the same as hmmwv, I'll tell you the story. Someone had wired it to run 12v for towing behind something more civilian...

    Securing a HMMWV

I installed this in under an hour- now my brother can't just come over and take my truck for a joyride! Even more worth it just to piss him off! #getyourownhmmwvbro

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Yeah man, same reason I installed the keyless ignition security. One evening I was out in the fields a good distance from my truck, when from out of the darkness came- my truck!- my brother had shown up and decided to just take it for a ride to find me- I was far enough away that i didn't hear...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Installed a Digital Guard Dawg M-24 RFID Keyless Security device in my M998 over the weekend. Install was really pretty easy, instructions were straightforward. The keyless unit works just fine, and its nice to have another layer of security on the truck.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I was driving home from work yesterday down a typical Indiana county road, enjoying the late-season corn fields, when on the horizon I spot a curious camo-painted shape. As I approach, to my amazement, its a pretty fresh M1101 trailer- for sale- in front of a house there- less than 2 klicks from...

    Radio Tray Quick Disconnects

Not a bad setup at all. The only thing I'd suggest (and this is only because the Co. I work for just tested 15 or so different padlocks) is not using that master-lock. It took us an avg of 17 seconds or so to pick them open using a tiny screwdriver. We had to test around 15 locks for a study...

    location for mx-7777

Hmmm. Good thing I "collected" all the parts- lol. I am still thinking of using it- for 1, I have a fair amount of alternator 'whine" coming through the headsets that I believe will be remedied by the 7777. And secondly, I've seen them used with a step-down unit (24v to 12v) for running...
