Wondering if anyone can tell me what drivetrain parts the growlers use. Have been able to ID the engine, trans, and transfer case, but can't find anything about the differential, CV's, or knuckles/hubs, except for one post on forum that suggested all those parts were carried over from M151, and...
In the middle of a serpentine conversion on my CUCV using what think are 'early' HMMWV parts, including 200amp 12/24V alternator and the big cast bracket with integrated p-pump mount. Wondering if can add a pulley with a clutch to this alternator. SS member bought parts from said he didn't think...
Adapting a 1966 Chevy cab to an M1031 chassis. Retaining 24V system, using the 1966 wiring harness for cab controls and instruments, and CUCV chassis/engine harness. Working on splicing the two harnesses together now, making some changes/upgrades at the same time. Slow going, but is coming...
Wondering about spinning a 400A 28V DC alternator with an MEP-002A. Have a bunch of 002's and bought a few of those (MRAP/LMTV?) alternators at auction a whole ago. Seems like it would be pretty easy to machine an adapter that would allow a pulley to be bolted to the fan to drive an alternator...
Engine stalls when shifted out of neutral, into drive (yes, PTO disengaged). My brother is suggesting that it may be a air solenoid that controls torque converter lockup? Not finding anything in TM's, can anybody point me in the right direction?
Not curious enough to take one apart to find out, and thinking about swapping out with HEMTT wheels/tires to make finding replacements easier in the future, but what's the deal with these? How do they work? Is there any kind of beadlock inside?
We're turning a few of our hightop M923A2's into long-wheelbase tractors using M931/2A2 parts, and would like to adapt the 5th wheels to some kind of sliding rails. Anything available or are we on our own?
Supposing I wanted to remove the front winch from an M936A2 wrecker. How would I go about that in a way that wouldn't compromise the integrity of the rest of the hydraulic system? Yes, I'm aware that removing the winch will make the frontend even lighter.
Bought an S250 shelter a while ago from a SS member, intending to turn it into a camper, but recently purchased another S250 shelter that I'm going to use instead. This one has a ton of electrical & communication stuff in it, and I don't need any of it. Was thinking I might want to use the air...
Have a 40ft shipping container that I need to have hauled from Bend Oregon down to Morgan Hill CA. It'll be (mostly) empty. Muscle-carcass and some misc stuff, maybe 5000lbs total inside. Just wanted to post here before contracting a freight company.
Purchased an M936A2 and another hightop M923A2 a few weeks ago. Have been thinking about swapping some parts around to make one supertruck, and wanted to get some feedback before I jump into this. The idea is to build a super-versatile heavy-duty cargo-length hightop tractor with a knuckleboom...
What's the preferred tool and method to adjust the brakes on the M939 series trucks? The manuals are not too specific, and we were in a pinch, so removed the inspections covers and used a screwdriver. Would just like to be better prepared next time.
My brother and I are heading down to Barstow on Monday to go pick up some hightop M923A2's, and wanted to pick up some extra caging bolts in case we need them. Had to install them on one truck previously, and it was way more difficult than it should have been. Paint on the threads made it so...
Thought some of you might like to see what I'm working on right now. Putting an M1031 under my Great Grandfather's '66 Chevy. Here's a link to the build-thread over on Pirate4x4.
Decided to swap my M109 motorhome box over onto an M939 series 5-ton, so mah deuce is getting bobbed. Plan is to set the wheelbase somewhere right around 12ft, and use an M103A3 bed, cut down to 8ft, with a 5-ton-style spare tire rack between the cab and the bed. Also going to cut-up an M101A3...
We've got a lot of towbars and I was thinking it would make sense to send a bunch of them back east. Dunno how many, guess it all depends on demand, But maybe 25? 50? 75? More? Anybody running loads from CA (bay area) back east...
Was watching several auctions, intending to buy a few things today. But when I sat down at about 1:30pm PST to place bids, their site was down. Could not get past the homepage. Called and talked to customer service, and they confirmed that their site was down. Was able to load a few pages over...
M109 box on M939
Seriously thinking about swapping my M109 box over onto an M939, Would probably prefer a cargo truck, but the tractors are selling a lot cheaper and the shorter overall length is kinda appealing. Have been searching and reading, wondering though, how it would all line-up...
Just purchased an M101A3 with an enclosure and am wonder how tall it is inside. Looked at the TM and was able to find the length (96") and width (65"), but didn't see anything about the enclosures. Can anyone tell me how tall it is inside? Thanks.
