    H-1 heater questions

12 for 12 now! The new AC ignitor transformer really seems to have done the trick.

    H-1 heater questions

Now that it is cold again I'm fiddling with the heater once more. The parts that fixed the ignitor lasted for about 2 starts, leaving me to guess that the transformer must be bad. I checked the electronics with a scope and had a nice big 150Volt spike feeding into the transformer, but it...

Another use for a Deuce...Bachelor Party...

I did the same for a buddy a few years ago, never did get any pics, too much beer involved. We had a designated driver with a CDL who really wanted to drive the deuce, so I let him chauffeur while I partied with the groom. We drove to a couple different 'entertainment' establishments around...

    H-1 heater questions

I finally got the parts to fix the ignition coil (after getting a quote from Dyna-Curtis for $450 each!!) I pulled the end cap off and found the circuit board completely embedded in some nasty rubber that was a bit of a pain to get picked out. I eventually had to do both sides which made the...

    H-1 heater questions

I'll have to give that a shot. Another thing I got to wondering about is the altitude adjustment it has in the fuel flow. Being that my house sits at about 7,600 feet I wonder if some adjusting of that might change the fuel/air mix and allow it to burn more cleanly. Thanks, Jeff

    H-1 heater questions

So after lighting instantly several times & running about 20 hours total I tried to fire it up a couple nights ago and no joy, well a little joy, the engine fired right up with no bleeding, but the burner wouldn't light. I pulled it apart again to check the burner area and it was well and truly...

    H-1 heater questions

I thought I should get back to this thread as I've gotten the heater to run pretty consistently now. The bleeding was pretty easy, tho I must have an air leak somewhere as it needs to be re-bled pretty much every time I run it after it sits for a week. To bleed I pull the air-diverter cover...

    H-1 heater questions

I just picked up this Model H-1 heater nsn: 4520-01-135-2770 and was wondering if anybody could point me towards a tech order or some such. It ran fine when I inspected it, tho it was hard to start. I also ran it for several hours the same day when I got it home (still hard to start). I'm...

How long does the Primary Fuel Filter drain For!?

The potential for a bump start is why I always leave my 'Engine Stop' pulled out. I also leave it out of gear and the parking brake set, which turns out to be a good thing when you go to the home store & they load the two pallets of rock while you're still in the store. I came out and they...

    Fuel fired heater woes

I got heat! It took a little experimentation, but I got the igniter fixed. I ended up using 20ga nichrome wire. I initially tried 40 wraps around a 1/4" rod, but that seemed to be too cool with the air blowing by it (took forever to fire, and didn't like to stay fired), so I shortened it to...

    Fun in snow...

I was having similar lack of traction on mine plowing the drive the other day, luckily I had chains on the front axle otherwise I wouldn't have made it up the hill! Just for fun I tried the moderately steep hill without the front axle locked, I might as well have been in neutral.

    Fuel fired heater woes

494F hopefully that means an igniter running somewhere around there will suffice, I'll shoot for a deal hotter tho, since that shouldn't bother the wire or cause any ignition problems. I may have to experiment a bit before I seal up the repaired igniter. I did manage to get the burned up...

    Fuel fired heater woes

Unfortunately the wire broke off flush with the ceramic. I wondered about using nichrome, but was hoping for the easy solution of a replacement part... I checked out some of the specs on nichrome and found a diameter that is about what I've got now. But I'm not sure what temperature I'll need...

    Fuel fired heater woes

Now that it is getting cold & snowy here in colorado I decided to try to figure out why my arctic heater doesn't heat. I've got a Benmar I got off ebay a while ago. To make life easier I pulled it off the truck so I could work on it on the bench. Much to my amazement it actually fired up on...

Sheet metal work ....Any ideas? has anyone done this?

When I installed the dump hoist on mine I had to slide it back a bit to reach my lift (the entry door is too short to get all the way in) so I used a bottle jack to lift the bed a little and put 3/4" PVC pipe underneath as rollers on both sides, front and back. The PCV worked ok initially, but...

    Ether Alternatives?

I used this kit (or maybe just a similar one, I don't recall) in mine: https://www.koldban.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=43403 The military had removed the flame heater and installed ether, then taken all but the injector when it was sold. The kit is 12 volt, but I've got a 12 volt...

    Deuce driving tips

I'm thinking about using one of them catalytic type (not open flame type) propane heaters with a 1 pound bottle if it gets too cold. Well secured so it doesn't move on me. I've used them in my hunting tent with a CO detector and run for many hours without ever setting off the detector...

Leg room m35a2 with spring seat

Just to add some anecdotal evidence to go along with your excellent empirical: I'm 6'4" and I do fit, not with a great deal of comfort but I am able to operate my deuce with spring seat decently. The longest I have spent in the seat, with very regular stops to get out and stretch, was about...

    Project Off-Grid M109A3 w/w log

I found a handy way to avoid kinking copper lines when bending, just fill with fine sand (clean very carefully afterwards of course). I did this when I re-arranged my RV's propane lines and was able to do some really tight bends. I just taped up one end then used a small funnel to get the sand...

    Folding Bumper Step Measurements?

When I built mine I used the width of the tailgate steps and the height of the bumper. I kept the hinge point a bit above the bottom of the bumper so that when deployed the step hits the bumper and doesn't swing underneath. I used angle iron welded on so that the angle forms a V when deployed...
