Getting the old girl started again

There really wasn't that much overspray dust on the floor. I do plan on doing another coat though. I had 3 gallons of Behr Premium Plus. That was enough to do 1 coat on the cab, outside of the box, and most of the undercarriage parts. It's gonna need another coat or 2 before I put the stars and...

Getting the old girl started again

Sorry guys. No time lapse video. But I did get it painted. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. And thanks to USMC for the paint color.

Getting the old girl started again

Well, here goes nothing. I picked up some Behr in Thorny Branch. Thanks for the color USMC. I tested it on my glove box door and it looks great. I went with flat. A good friend is gonna help me prep on Sunday morning. I'll take some pics. And I may try a time lapse video of the process. I'll...

Getting the old girl started again

I cleaned up some more data plates yesterday. Mine were in pretty good shape to start with. I cleaned them with soapy water. And then sprayed 3 coats of clear lacquer. Got a car show coming up in Flint MI on June 27th at the Sloan Museum. Just found out today that they are having a special...

Getting the old girl started again

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who chose the G749 to be my first rebuild project. I agree with you on the trans. I would really love to rebuild my old one. I think it's possible. I did get the carb info. Thank you. I'll be ordering one of those this fall when summer driving and parade season...

Getting the old girl started again

I will do my best to keep this post updated henderson. BTW, thank you for all of the great info you've posted. Here's the pic of that poor 211 being transformed. At least the trans and fenders went to a good home! I'm not condoning bobbing but here is a pic I found a while back. I think its on...

Getting the old girl started again

I've done quite a bit of work on it in the past few years. I'm just terrible at keeping up with this thread. Unlike yourself, plowboy, henderson, and gunfreak. I did have to find a new trans for my truck. The one that was in it wouldn't shift past second gear. It would try but it couldn't...

Getting the old girl started again

another update with some pics I've wanted to remove the inner wheels and tires on my 211 for a while. Partially because I like the way it looks and also because some of my tires were in pretty bad shape. I got a chance to spend some time with an old Army mechanic and he helped me with the...

Getting the old girl started again

I wish I was better at keeping up with the latest news on my truck. I get so much good advice and information from you guys that I feel guilty for not sharing my experiences. Since the last time I posted I have moved the truck out of my old warehouse and drove it home. However, it would not...

Getting the old girl started again

Tip for inductive timing light. I saved an old plug wire and just "peeled" away the various layers of stuff. Worked great. If you don't have an old wire you can take a piece of regular wire (about 8-12 ga) and strip each end enough to get it to make contact with the distributor and spark plug. I...

Getting the old girl started again

You were correct about timing. It has since been dialed in with a timing light. Also got the brakes bled and working. I just need to put the cab back together and get it outside to see if the trans functions properly. I will keep you guys updated.

Getting the old girl started again

Hello all. I'm sorry its been so long since I last posted. But I'm sure you all know how life gets in the way of our great hobby. Great news! The truck is running again. It was the starter. I took it off and sent it to a shop to get rebuilt. Cost $130. Well worth it to me. She turns over great...

Getting the old girl started again

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I should have given more details about what work I've already done. The truck had a cracked head when I got it. It would run just not very well. So I found another head which got a valve job along with hardened seats. I also rebuilt the air compressor. The...

Getting the old girl started again

Hello fellow GMC owners. I need some guidance. My 211 is all put back together and ready to start. But it just wont turn over fast enough to start. The truck did start and run before I started working on it. I replaced all of the battery cables but that didn't change the cranking speed. My next...
