    Coming Attraction - project #6 M43 build

Zout, If you need more info than that, let me know. There are other sources as well. ~~~ That kind of help is what this site is all about.

If I had worked that hard on that M43 and made it look that pretty, people would have to pry my cold dead hands off the steering wheel to get it! And I would insist I be buried in it!

About Self Energizing and Huck style brakes ~~ Not to be too long winded, but Huck brakes which were an improvement over their predecessors, attempt to push both front and rear shoes symmetrically to the drum. There are adjustable anchor pins at the bottom of each shoe. Each shoe operates...

Same-same. In the interest of not having lots of different parts to stock or ship they are the same. Because the brakes are Hauck type, both the front and rear bores are the same. M37 brakes are not self actuating so they are a little less powerful, but they work equally in either direction.

Given our cold climate, we have been pondering about heaters for GD,s project. Years ago I picked up a NOS personnel heater, but I too have heard stories about that heater. Some more things to consider after we get it running.

I don't count them anymore. Couldn't get to a couple to check the fill necks. Not all are parts trucks some of them actually run. I have owned an M37 since 1963 and I have been collecting parts since then. Both of my adult children have the same series trucks as well. AND I am still picking up...

Zout, Glad to take a look for you. It is nice to have our own parts yard. GD and I will be under one of our parts M37's dropping a flywheel pan to pull a couple of flywheel bolts this afternoon. It used to be I could buy things like that from the local nut and bolt wholesale houses, but...

Zout, Following up our PM's regarding M43/M37 gas tank fill necks, here are some photos of both applications. Our ORD and TM manuals show the fill neck assembly to be the same for both units. What we did find was that there is an attachment bracket with two bolt holes that secures the fill...

I like those Power King tires. GD is getting a pair of near new ones off of one of our M101's. She is also getting a near new similiar tread off another of our M101's. We plan on switching the tires off her M43 to the trailers so they will still roll around the yard. Her old NDT's look much...

My mentioning the spring axle bolt bracket was the same for all M37 variants made me remember the frame and springs are different on the longer wheel base variants. Not only is the M43 frame slightly thicker material, the height of the frame channel is slightly larger as is the web portion...

    Coming Attraction - project #6 M43 build

I have often wondered that myself. This is the same on all the M37 variants. My thoughts have run from some sort of shipping hold down to an attachment point for something like a boom where you did not want to load the springs, just the wheels. I have never found any TM that referenced a use for...

Oldfart is guessing its repairing the spotlight and installing the fuel tank (did you ever get it back with your car????) Zout is awesome to be able to paint in the hot sun. If I did that the paint would look like powder. Gotta know your reducers for that kinda stuff.

This kind of S**t makes a guy really angry. I went to the farm this morning to help Ghostdriver on her day off. We discovered the shop refrigerator had been cleaned out (again). No beer, no sodas, no cold water. Then we discovered someone had slashed a perfect near new canvas on one of our...

Zout, Do you have the dimensions for the two little one's over the windshield with "Ambulance" between them??

If Zout needs some dimensions for the crosses, we have a second parts M43 with faded crosses that can be measured.

Ghostdriver told me this am that you were kicking back a bit on this project reporting. I guess I have been one of those readers who wasn't posting back. Your thread and the progress has been a terrific read. Sorry I did not add something along the way. ~~~ There aren't many active M37 projects...
