1984 CUCV M1009
Former U.S. Navy Seabee @ Port Hueneme, CA
6.2 diesel
Turbo 400
np-208 (soon to be swapped with np-205)
10B/3.08 (soon to be swapped with D60/14 4.56 w/ Eaton Gov-Lok and LS)
28k miles

So I found this on Monday, 2/14/11, bought it 2/15/11 and brought it home. We were racing Battle at Primm on 2/19-20/11, so I only had a few days to bring it up to speed.

The Government had drained all fluids, oil filter missing, rear diff cover missing, hole punched in tranny pan, fuel tank skid plate had hole torched in it, hole punced in fuel tank, alternator regulators going haywire, but other than that she was beautiful-(to me).

I bought 37 HMMWV tires when i bought the M1009, but since I did not have the D60/14B in yet, i had to get 6 lug wheels.

Anyways, got it home Tuesday night and went to work. Here are some photos. Hope you enjoy. Thanks.

Nice build and a lot of work. I see that you trimmed the fenders to fit the 37's. Are you planning a lift?
I bet hills are rough with the M1009 gearing!

Hehe, did you already install the 205 or is that a future mod? Looks like the same guy that worked on the steering column got to the front fenders! LOL

The steering column looks like it was "peeled" in order ot steal the vehicle. Somebody was not smart enough to acquire a B 73Y2. Then again, nobody ever accused a thief of being smart.

pacebm- no lift planned, possibly a set of deavers and some Fox 2.5s. And yes! the hills are killers. I just drove it out to Primm and the hills by Stateline caused top speed of 40 mph. Can't wait to get the 4.56s and turbo.

Cucvfreek- I live near Beaumont. About 7 hours south of you.

Recovry4x4 - 205 was a typo, I have the 208, but yes, the 205 will go in when i swap the axles from the M1028. IDK what happened to the column, but we plasma cut the fenders. I need to clean them up and finish, but we were under the gun trying to get to Primm
Thanks for all the compliments guys.

1984 cucv m1009 build thread

Hey Cucvfreek, must be nice to be out in that area... i did 6mos. in Tarzana, and then 3 1/2 yrs in Simi Valley, about 2mins drive from my house to Spawn Ranch on Santa Susanna Pass... loved it out there, and should have never come back to SLOhio... sadly, i didnt have any MV's when i was out there, but did have my ex-gov't 92 Bronco (5.8Ltr, 4.11's, HD susp., and factory rollbar), and spent alot of time at Hungry Valley and the Mojave, both wheelin and riding mx... there was a guy in the hills above Simi that had a nice Deuce... heres a pic i took back in 04 of it. not a Cucv, but i still would love to have had it.

sorry, almost forgot, nice ride, Mohawk !! and thanks for putting the link to the built M1009 up on the other thread... are you building your front bumper to hold a winch? id love to see pics, whether you go W/W, or WO/W. and i think it looks bada$$ with those tires and no lift... i dont want to cut my M1010's fender, but have considered getting flared glass Prerunner fenders for it, to minimize the needed lift to go to 37s. plus they just make anything they're put on look even cooler.

hey Still, Thanks!

if you want fiberglass you can check out Trailer Products at </title><link href="styles/style2.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /></head><body><div id="container"><div id="masthead"><img alt="" height="97" src="photo/logoshop.gif" width="270" /> <title>

or Hanneman at Hannemann Fiberglass Inc.

I will put a winch in my bumper, warn 8274 probably. It will be a couple weeks until we do the bumpers. Starting the cage on Tuesday.

We build and race trucks, but have just recently been getting into 4x4 stuff, and we love it. We are all getting Jeeps, Broncos, etc for our multi-purpose-go anywhere-do anything vehicles.

I cut my fenders b/c we live by the motto FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION but I understand not everyone wants cut fenders. lol.

Here's 2 of our trucks. The tundra is what took 1st in 1450 and 2nd in Heavy Metal last weekend at Battle of Primm.

Don't worry about that. You bought it, build it as you like. If folks here dont like it they can pound sand.

i miss going fast in the desert... its one of the main things that made me want to go to cali as a kid. never got to go that fast, but my old boss out there had raced desert for years. in fact his dad and Bud Ekin? basically started the Baja 1000 as a promo run for Honda motorcycles... one day i'll be back out there... hope to see King of the Hammers some time...

Freek, yes, BITD, MDR, SCORE, SNORE, and any others our pockets allow.

So, we started the cage Tuesday, here's progress so far. We're just bolting to the cab as this is NOT a race vehicle and will NOT see high speeds. As it gets 20 MPG, i will DD it a lot. I did not want road noise and diesel noise harmonics throught the cage making it stupid noisy. This cage is for cab reinforcement for a flop over when rock climbing or what not. The girls are always in the back and i did not want their skulls smashed through the fiberglass top.

After we finish the cage, I will mount/install the new

So, I need to keep on trucking. Then we will also do the roof rack with a rooftop tent, rear bumper w/ MM hyd. winch, spare 37, 2 jerry can diesel, 1 jerry can water, hi lift, and whatever else fits. lol

Front bumper will be with MM hyd. winch. I will keep all blackout lights in working condition and try to follow the MV look. Also, i will stencil the markings back on the body.

Enjoy.
