Axle wrap with a bobbed deuce?

depends on you wheel base too. this is a 5 ton tractor which i set up for the m105 bed. worst case you can also build a little cradle on the bottom of the frame to jump around that stuff. i didnt do that to this truck cause customer wanted more of the look and just didn't want the wrap of the axles.


also dont forget to add the distance from center of heim plus few threads and the insert it self. tubes become even smaller. I know with my inserts and heims i take off 4" off each side

The problem I'm going to have is I'm using m105 springs so my traction bars will be narrower then the springs which I'm hoping helps with articulation. Idk

Yes, because if I decide to go higher later on down the road I'm going to make lift brackets like you have. I have spring saddles made already with 1.5" lift built in already. They will get welded to the axle. Then I'll use appropriate lift blocks hopefully only measuring out to 2" or so. I have thought about make a full custom lift block/spring saddle and welding it to the axle but I want to keep it simple and I can counteract that once I make the lift brackets for the frame.

what i came up with for this customers truck. God the air chamber sucked working around. but i just got enough clearence for 12" of downward travel and it doesn't hit. 1"x 1.25" heims with 2.5"x .25wall dom tube. i have to finish machining my inserts for the bar i ran out last monster truck we built. mounts are all from 3/8 plate.

I wanted less angle but best i could do besides make the frame plate longer which i like the look of it. was going to mount it on top of axle tube but knowing the leverage lose wouldnt have been worth it. then was looking at putting one of my upper 4 bar mount helmets on the top but so man air lines to get in the way.

Ok so traction bars are done. Just have to build the mounts for the front and I'm going to use 3/8" angle in the rear to help protect the bushing from rocks.

I used 1 1/2" schedule 80 structural pipe. It was about .040" over 1 1/2". They are 5 feet long. Here is some pictures.

Ok so the front mounts are done. But I can't decide on the back mounts. On top of the axle or on the bottom? I thought about making a bracket and using smaller u bolts to attach it to the axle. What do you guys think?

Why are we doing this? - because of axle wrap.

Why do we have axle wrap? - because the springs bend.

Where do the springs bend? - where they attach to the axle.

Therefore, the closer you get to the spring/axle point, the closer you get to a 'neutral' point where the links won't do much of anything. I personally believe you want to attach the links at a point far from there - bottom of the axle, IMO.

Ok so here is the front mounts. They turned out great I think. 6 1/2" mounting bolts and it's made out of 1/4" plate.

Now as far as the rear I'm not sure yet. I want to make it removable but the idea I had I'm not sure if it will work. It will depend on the angle from the front mount if it will clear or not. If it doesn't I'm just going take a piece of angle and have it half wrap the axle around the front then weld on the brackets at a 45* angle.

Yes..... that's a majority of what we use at work. It's much stronger then er70s-6 and runs very nice and clean. But we still use shielding gas. It's a requirement by some railroad specifications where are trailers run.
