Heavy-axle tractor MAZ-538 has been used mainly in the Royal Engineers.

MAZ-538 is equipped with 12 V-twin diesel engine D12A-375, are similar to those on a four tractor MAZ-535. To transfer torque from the engine to the wheels is a hydromechanical transmission, consisting of converter boxes, change gears, a two-stage transfer case with reverse and two major axles.

Man to see the drive-trains on these vehicles makes my head spin. Its amazing how unafraid compared to American designs the USSR appeared to be. Now these are oddities and America actually produced some strange systems but the diversity of these is pretty cool.
