Thats what i was thinking, i have found fully rigged 6.0/4l80e combos for about 800 in my area that run and can be seen running before purchase

I have a 82 GMC K2500 with a factory 6.2/SM465 and NP205. I've had it since the 90's There Is a wide jump in ratios between 1st and 2nd. But the 6.2 has enough low end torque that it picks it up pretty well. 2nd and 3rd are pretty close together so I added a banks turbo to help out when towing. I'm pretty happy with it.

Ok, well you definitely have plenty of experience with it to know what you are talking about haha. My thing is i can do the whole ls swap for the cost of the banks turbo and how much extra work it is doesnt really bother me. I have kinda set my mind on the ls and 4l80e, but i really do appreciate everyone's input. Thanks

I have done 3 LS swaps, including one in my 73 K10. It is hands down the best way to go for the money! The truck runs like a new Silverado. The fuel injection is great, and the benefit of unlimited tuning through the laptop is amazing! You can reach right inside the truck and with one quick turn of the key its up and running.

On these square bodies, the swap is incredibly easy. You don't have to change the oil pan, intake or any other bolt on's. I'm running mine with a TH350 / NP205 setup, and I'm still able to use my stock length drive shafts. I even used the radiator, hoses, shroud, and overflow jug right out of the Silverado I got the engine out of! When you pop the hood, it looks like a new truck.

I'd go LS every single time over a 6.2.

Wow, thanks for the reply. I thought from reading around it seemed fairly easy for the benefits you get from it. I'm pretty sure thats the way i'm gonna go with the truck.

Yes, for all three swaps. I take the stock harness apart, remove all the wiring I don't need, then put it back together. I make my own fuse box for the harness too. Nice and simple!

My contact truck has the factory 6.2 with an SM465 box. It's a challenge to get it up to speed in the mountains but it's fine once it gets there. Truck weighs 8400# with tools. For low speed moving and crawling, it's just great. My failing knees object to the 3rd pedal.
