Injector pump removal / install

My M1009 broke down after the Veterans picnic last Saturday, and was towed to local shop. I/P need replacing.
Where can I get IP removal / install direction for the shop. I checked out the TM's with no luck. Can someone direct me to the correct TM or has a write up I can print out and provide to the shop?

If the place you took it to has to ask how to fix something (well anything), I would go some place else. It is no different that any 6.2L or 6.5L diesel engine in any GMC truck.

The TM 9-2320-289-34 does have a step-by-step for the IP

It is covered in Chapter 3-37

The OP did not say the shop requested the TM.

Nothing wrong with offering the TM to anyone doing your work.

Information is power. Any intelligent mechanic would appreciate the info(and look through it).

Great write up, and it convinced me to let a professional do it. A local shop will charge me around $450 labor for the install. They will give me a lifetime warranty on the rebuilt one. $602 for the rebuilt injector pump, I would need to buy that either way. I am pretty sure I could do it, but I would probably cuss alot, bruise something important. I knew this would happen someday, when I won this Blazer off of GOVLIQUIDATION. They say they can turn it up 10%.. so I'll like that.

I would tackle it myself, not a very difficult job. Your ribs will hurt from leaning over the radiator support but that's it. Biggest thing you can mess up is pump timing or dropping the IP gear bolts down into the engine. Other than that...it's a straight job. I would highly recommend doing it yourself for the experience and save yourself the money. You could get it done on the side of the road if required it's that easy.

I have a M1009 that I was planning on replacing the lift pump and ip and looked all over for encouraging articles after hearing so many ip horror stories.
Well I got a rebuilt ip @ Pensacola fuel injection they run an ad on eBay but luckily are minutes from my house.
The ip plus new lines set me back like $640 and I got the braided push on returns for like $25 more
It's been years since I've really rebuilt an engine 25+ but believe me anyone that can turn a wrench can do this job.
The four bolts and 2 lines on the lift pump were harder then the ip and lines the only special tool I think you really need is the crow foot for the bottom ip lines.
Don't freak yourself out about the timing the pump only goes in one way with the dowel pin.
The scariest part is the 3 bolts through the oil fill because you have to turn the engine with a 24 or 28mm socket at the balancer,I believe it was 24mm then the 3 inside the valley take the lines off and its out,
Be sure to remember the plunger and spring in the nose of the pump so they don't fall out.
The rest is very obvious 2 fuel lines 2 vac houses obvious hold down clips and intake bolts you will have to loosen the bolt that holds to vac pump in the back enough to turn it to get the back intake bolt on the right.
When you set the static ip timing by the mark on the pump and block simply move it a lines width to the left all vids I seen show this it's very simple.
I wouldn't hesitate to do another!
