Geez, and our dept grant writer got a Govt notice that the program that dispurses ANYTHING from the military to state and local departments is on lockdown. They want a full accounting of everything that has gone out on the program before anything else is let out through it.
Good Luck...
Side note: The county FD auctioned several dueces last year that it got in the program in the 80's, I wonder how the paperwork on them worked out???

I work on my HMMWV for the "love of it" and will continue. But the thought of a thread discussing modding a 1,000 gallon poly tank with sprayers on a HMMWV to water the local parkway grass is somehow... perverse. That's coming from the perspective of a "Military Vehicles Supersite", but I'm not one to stop progress if we're calling it that.
Readyman, You've uncovered the secret plot to slowly convert all the HMMWVs into fire trucks and Crown Vic's!

I don't even know where to start with this one!!!!! I guess since you are from a state that doesn't even allow you carry a pistol than neither should the police department!?!?!?!

Like I tell everyone that wants to complain about modifying something/anything......let them! it only makes what you have even more rare and more valuable.

Also like others have said.....I hope all of them get in the hands of the Civil help departments.....they don't get crushed and maybe after a few of them are out there, there will be time to get the laws changed.......

The biggest reason AM General has the stand they do is they never tested these things to pass ANY sort of DOT safety guidelines and as a DISCLAIMER have to say NOT for CIVILIAN use.......protects their A....

I participate in many forums, mostly firearms related, and have found this forum extremely informative and helpful. I have a side business that involves gunsmithing and firearms sales so I spend a lot of my off time on-line. I appreciate all of the help that SS have provided on the HMMWV projects.

I have also caught the military vehicle bug and am shopping for possibly my own HMMWV or maybe a 6x6....depending on the approval process (wife). It's funny because when I had access and used these everyday I had no desire for them.

So apologies if the programs bothers you, but the way I feel is if we can save a few from the crusher and get some good use out of them then I'm all for it. And yes, we have used ours to help people where crown victorias could not go.

Thanks to all that have helped.

This all goes along with the militarized police force. I'm not a real big fan of local pd's walking around looking like their patrolling Mosul Iraq ............now they have military trucks in full trim.

Why cant I run around with lights and sirens (sp?) as long as I stay under the speedlimit?

I dont dress like a criminal. I dont act like a criminal. I drive like a criminal. and guess what, I've never been pulled over or bothered by cops for no appearent reason. I don't care if they run around the streets of my town in bradleys aslong as they just do their job and don't harass anyone, which they haven't so far. Each and every patrol car already has a shotgun and long gun in it and every cop open carries a pistol on his/her side. I haven't seen any cases in my town of the police abusing their authority just becasue they have the fire power and most of the citizens around here do not.

Edit* wow I missed where I typed "I drive like a criminal" , that should say I DON'T drive like a criminal. LOL

I also am thinking along the lines that hopefully, after a time they will become available to the public sector. Might be wishful thinking, but who knows?
They can never be released to the public, they must be returned when done. The problem will be: several will be sold/auctioned etc. when done with. Years down the road when they catch this; how do you separate the legal ones from the 90's auctions and the incorrectly released LEO ones?

This program where Humvees and military equipment is going to the local Leos is actually kinda frightening specially in such a quick fashion some one said that in one of the posts above that he saw stuff he wasnt suppose to im all for military vehicles getting reused but even im a little worried as to what is going on :???:

You're lucky KsM715, it's real different in Chicagoland/suburbs where harassment is a way of life.
My son and I got pulled over in our Deuce for a +2 hour stop, 6 squads, full shakedown. Coming home after a St Pat's Day Parade (with Happy St Pats banners +all), no tickets, no charges, just harassment. btw, An immediate request of dashcam videos from ISP(to post here) resulted in a 'no traffic stop found' - cool the way they do that, huh?

It wasn't all bad tho, we did get a lights and siren escort for the rest of the 10 miles home, (There was an multijurisdictional APB out for us)

Not to be too conspiratorial.
hndrsonj,
You hit the nail on the head, glad you said it and not me.
It's a 'Fast and Furious' senario.

The answer is... Govt won't, they will just ban them all from the road. Like AMGeneral wanted in the first place, and couldn't.

When it's all over and added up, it's just a truck. Up armored? Heck, anyone can uparmor just about anything, even a dozer. As one poster mentioned, they lack creature comforts, they aren't going to be on regular patrol. There is a craapload of folks on here that have their own SHTF vehicle, why should the folks that are charged with suppressing chaos not be similarly equipped? Overzealous cops? What about the overzealous citizens or politicians. Bad apples in every bunch my friends. There are dirty cops, dirty doctors, dirty politicians, dirty soldiers, dirty hamburger flippers and dirty SS Members. As society grows and pickles, so does respect.

My ? on this is....... We all know the GOV can recall any of our trucks (EUC items) or change the de-mil status. If this is possible, then why hasn't the GOV recalled all the HMMWV's that were mistakenly sold off in the firstplace?

My theory; AMG wanted a some sold off (in limited numbers) to create an interest. That way when the regular population found out you couldn't get one from surplus they would have to buy the civy H1

I thought the Atlanta/Riverside USMC trucks were sold off without EUCs... that was the whole reason they were sold; the Marines gave them to BAE Systems without EUCs because the original plan was to export them to foreign buyers... when that sale fell through, BAE had no stipulation preventing them from just selling them on the open market.

this is the exact problem I wonder about. I know of 2 here in columbia that have already been sold off to the public under an open auction. FD red and everything. Just makes you wonder when lots more of them will start slipping thru the cracks.

Yup, No end use restrictions on the United Defense Humvees and not sold through normal surplus channels so the normal rules don't seem to apply to these.

That Puzzles me as our Dept. gets an annual audit from the Military LESO program to account for every single vehicle and piece of equipment that has to be returned.

I don't like the sound of that, F&F all over again.
The whole AMG strategy may be OMG we lost track of these dangerous non-roadworthy muni-HMMWV's so ban/de-title/de-plate all of 'em from the street. Because they can't tell the contraband from the legal.

AMG is an influential player in Govt legislation. They might have pushed this HMMWV LESO program thru to help parts sales? Follow the money.
I don't think its an accident, first no more surplus HMMWV's all get crushed/cut, then no more parts sales to civilians, then LESO opens the floodgates to every muni and their brother including spare parts!

this is the exact problem I wonder about. I know of 2 here in columbia that have already been sold off to the public under an open auction. FD red and everything. Just makes you wonder when lots more of them will start slipping thru the cracks.

I dont beleive this to be true. If it has an NSN and was once GOV property it is still restricted. Does not matter who sold it off.

Remember, GSA vehicles do not have EUC's either but they are still controled items.
