I gotta get the popcorn out to watch this thread.
It can be 10 weight oil, 15w-40, or some auto trans synthetic stuff.
An active duty wheeled mechanic here at Ft Carson recently advised me they were putting 15w-40 in everything to keep it simple.
The -10 manual will specify different fluids for different ambient temperature ranges (if in Alaska or different if in Hawaii).

You have just entered the twilight zone.
Trans oil is like women every person has a different opinion on what they like.
I myself just want a smooth well running one that has no issues. If she ain't fussing be happy.

10-30 diesel motor oil looks good for NJ temps---what is the oil quart amount for the hash lines on the trans stick --that is what I would like to know--did not see that info in the manual--thanks

Kind of a catch 22 though since you dont want to drive it to warm everything up till you make sure the trans has proper fluid level.

That is ture, On a new truck I check it cold then drive it a little and check it again.

My truck took 5 gallons, but I also had the pan off and changed the filters.
