you mean pilot bearing, not input bearing, and it's in the crankshaft. just to be clear. also you cannot use just any kind of grease, some tend to dry out real fast with heat.

Ok, I was able to pull off the inspection cover of the bell housing. The throw out bearing moves fine. what I did notice is that the fingers on the pressure plate, one of the four is riding againt the bearing. The other three, I move them up and down with a screw driver freely. To get to the pilot bearing do I have to the tunnel cover to get to another inspection plate... any advise?

so it sounds like you have a bad pressure plate at the least. or some of the bolts holding it on could be loose on one area by the finger that is out more. (i doubt it though) to get to the pilot bearing you have to remove the trans, of course same for the clutch so just do it all at the same time. don't forget the rear main seal while you are there. if you replace the clutch disk you must resurface the flywheel.

I had a similar issue recently. On mine though there were three forks on the pressure plate and one was not making any contact with the throw out bearing, so the clutch would not fully disengage. The one that was flopping around not making contact, I noticed its pivot was threaded into a nut of sorts and it had loosened. I tightened the nut in the stud for the pivot and it pulled the contact area of the fork back to the throwout bearing. Goes into gear no problem now....
