bucksnort,
when i had won my a3, back in october, several people commented that the handle would likely disappear before my first EUC cleared. I'm glad it didn't. i suspect there would be a buyer for your crank on SS to help offset the landing leg replacement cost.

I live just North of Madison so if you're close maybe we could meet up sometime.
I took what's left off and took it apart to see what went wrong. I suspect the trailer was "dropped" too hard on it's landing gear at some point.
The guts look like what would be in a civilian trailer leg from say Atwood or such.
It has a set of gears that attached to a shaft that connected to the lower leg assembly. It appears the c-clip holding the end of the lower shaft came off allowing the lower parts to come off. There was a brass bushing in the gear box that was shattered. This was the bushing for the lower shaft, not where the horizontal crank shaft rides.
Yea it's a bummer. I could spend $50 in gas and see if it's on the side of the road between McCoy and LaCrosse but I doubt my success rate would be worth it. I just hope someone didn't run over it on the road and hurt their car.

I hope no one else has this problem and maybe it would be another thing to check when you p/u your trailer. Next time I'd give the landing leg plate a good kick with my foot to make sure it's secure.

I see that there's one on sleazebay for $100 + shipping but for $30 I could buy a clamp on leg with a wheel (Sorry purist's). I was thinking of getting a 2 1/4x 2 1/4 piece of tube that would slide up there and weld a foot on and bolt the new tube to the old leg. While not adjustable it'd work.

Here's some photos of the crank handle. It looks fairly easy to whip something up that'd work.

What is the 4 " handle made of? It is different than others I have seen.

Is the flat steel 1/8 inch? Could you measure the 2 dimensions of the cut on the end of the longer handle.

Thanks

The flat steel is 1/4"
The slot is 1/2" deep and 1/4"wide
The handle looks like it has a shaft and another piece over it that would "roll" as you spun the handle. Mine doesn't turn but PB Blaster would fix that I bet.
I didn't realize handles were in such great demand. I'd probably keep mine but what are they worth realistically?
I had a crank leg with wheel that when a tree fell on my boat it bent the mount and I think I threw it out last Summer ( something that would shock anyone that knows me, the packrat) that I could rig up.

Where did you get the trailer and how much was it?
Mine was $580 with taxes and 5% buyers premium. They tend to go higher up here as the Wisco National Guard takes really good care of their stuff. The tires are newer ones. The tarp is pretty good and it goes down the road straight.

You got the crank you just did not crank the bottom part up and lost it. Now would be agood time to find a copy of the TM. Would have been even better before pick up> now you pay. Sorry for your problem.

I know. I could care less about the lost leg as thinking someone hit it on the road and screwed something up.
I hope my problem has others give that sucker a good kick before they go down the road. Looking at what parts are left in the gearbox it looks like the c-clip on the end of the shaft broke off and allowed the whole lower leg with the shaft to slide out. Finding the remnants of the shattered bronze bushing leads me to think the leg got beat on at some time
