Need Help with Oil Filter Identification

I'm trying to identify the equipment or engine that this oil filter supports.
  • P/N is SA-15417
  • NSN is 2940-00-364-4956 (covers this one and apparently a bunch of other numbers and mfrs.)
  • filter size is 3 3/4" across and 4 1/4" high

Just can't seem to tie that information to the equipment it's made for. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Could that be for the "Military Junior" filter housing? The two numbers for the Junior & Senior were P-51 & P-50 or visa versa. I always got the backwards. For instance the M-211 & the M-37 were two applications. By Purolater. I have them in the shop, I will look later.

I tried to see if I could find an APL with that NSN. Don't seem to have access to the correct databases.

If it helps,
The OP's original NSN (2940-00-364-4956) is a replacement for the following NSNs
The PN is still valid, but Uncle Sugar hasn't purchased any since 2008.

Searching the crossreferenced numbers, I found references to Case and a couple of other tractors, but not the engine. Obviously, it was used in a variety of civilian and military equipment, but it seems that's about as much information as I'm going to get.

Thanks for your help.

"...Could that be for the "Military Junior" filter housing?..."

We took it to the Sussex show and the guesses were indeed Junior, but for a Jeep. That might be it because we also found out that Jeep engines were used in various stationary applications, and that's the general application that these came from (but we don't know what.) Also tracks with 4 cyl tractor engines.

Now we're pursuing that.
