Just picked up my M1009 that was posted in the classifieds here..I love it! good shape, seems solid. I have a few questions though...

Was there originally tow hooks on the rear? Mine looks like they are missing...Or at least I thought they were, until I looked at others and saw the same thing...Was there originally supposed to be hooks there, or is that for something else?

On the drivers side valve cover it has, in yellow paint, a date painted on it 12-5-95, and a long series of numbers..I will try to get a picture of this to post so maybe somebody can explain or decipher..Wondering if it had an engine swap? Or maybe just head work?

What grenade works best for the tcase handle? Something easy to get at the local Army/Navy surplus store? Love the look as seen here on the forum!

last one....And I see this has been covered to death, but I am still undecided and generally hesitant...What is the best undercoating on a budget? I assume 3m rubberized spray, but I hear it fades and collects dirt, looking like crap..I have heard hit/miss on POR15....Same with DIY bedliner....Is there some silver bullet Im missing here? I would like a rugged, non faded or crap collecting, black undercarriage.

Stupid newbie questions..Sorry if its been covered over and over....This site is great! Pics to follow tonight when I get home...had to dodge tornadoes last night

Welcome to SteelSoldiers.

The trucks came stock with tow clevises (sp) front and back. There are special mounting brackets for them. You can look in the TM parts manuals to see what they look like and how the are attached.

Make sure you visit the Cucv Wiki - Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles Supersite (CUCV Wiki) that is at the top of the page on the CUCV Forum.

All of the CUCV Technical Manuals are listed and many other helpful bits of information.

You need to download the repair manuals. You can get then for free. Here on this site or a couple of our members have posted them on their websites.

www.jatonkam35s.com
www.liberatedmanuals.com

The wiring diagrams are in the appendix of the -20 and -34 manuals.
Also checkout the CUCV stickys. It is where we try to post helpful tips and tricks.

Almost every question you will have has been asked and answered many times. The advanced search will become your best friend. Please don't hesitate to ask something that you can't find.

Read the TM 9-2320-289-10 Operators Manual to find out how a stock system
should work. It is simular to the Operators Manual for Civilian vehicles. It tells you where all the lighs, switches, etc are located and what they do.

Three of the most important tools you can buy are:

Digital Voltmeter and know how to use it - ~$10 and up
12v Battery Charger - ~$50 for a decent one
Battery Load Tester - ~$30 for an okay one at Harbor Freight

Appreciate it..I have the TMs...I am now officially in the hunt for some tow hooks to put back on.

Regarding the undercoating...I was more curious about the rubberized 3m DIY looking bad over time..has anybody seen this? Pics of my new ride to come tonight :)

The official name for the tow hooks is Clevis, the manual calls them shackles. Might make your search easier.
