OMG, I am SO FREAKIN Mad!

I just heard that all MV's are to be CRUSHED. NO MORE SALES PERIOD.

I am livid. This is a travesty. I so hope I am wrong but who just told me
this has never been wrong w/ this stuff past.

So INCREDIBLY wrong.

If it is EPA stuff then odds are they will come back in with 939 series trucks being fine. Heavy truck emissions really just came into effect around 2007, so odds are it would be any trucks after that affected.

Remember the whole M35 radioactivity gauge debacle? They stopped all sales, but they came back with only some affected.

Just bumping this up and explaining the reasoning behind the closing of the threads again.

The reason the threads are closed and any future threads are closed is simple. We don't have any 100% accurate reason as to why the trucks were pulled. Everyone jumping to conclusions and speculation based on fear only complicate matters.

While we have a rule about no firearm talk, I'd like to briefly use it as an example. Think back to the panic that happened after that tragic school shooting. A AR rifle suddenly went from a $600 item to a $1500 or more item overnight. A lot of legislation happened afterwards as well, legislation that can be deemed as rushed. But today prices returned to normal. I'll stop though, it's to political to elaborate more.

This hobby is supplied by a single point. It'd be easy to assume that fear and panic from saber rattling would negatively impact the hobby. That's the reason for the actions the staff has taken here.

For what it's worth, I typically receive correspondence from GL on Thursdays for the ad updates. I hope I'll have a spreadsheet listed with lots of MVs.

TACOM banning military vehicles to be sold and reutilized

There is a storm brewing as I type this. It appears to have started with agencies getting HUMVEES from surplus and trying to get their titles. Now TACOM is saying that most of the military's vehicle's should never have been sold or repurposed due to an agreement between TACOM and the EPA. I have a chain of emails that i have acquired, which would explain why it is hard to find a tactical vehicle on govliquidation and so forth lately. I have learned this because i recently requisitioned a M1078 with a Cat3116 for my local fire department.

Here's an excerpt from one of the emails, and based on the other emails, the future is uncertain at best.

"DLA has just learned that engines in certain vehicles (for now, they are saying all M series vehicles) are not authorized for release outside the national security environment and must be destroyed. This is based on an agreement between the EPA and TACOM that dates back about 20 years, but DLA Disposition Services just became aware of this in the past few days. While we've issued these vehicles in the past, we can no longer continue to do so. DLA just provided an initial list of NSNs affected, attached, but this may grow."

Rural fire departments across Oklahoma and the nation will be devastated by an agreement between the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which stops making available excess DoD vehicles that are critical to rural fire departments’ ability to fight wildland fires.


Through two long-standing federal excess property programs, Federal Excess Personal Property (FEPP) and Firefighter Property program (FPP), Oklahoma Forestry Services has been able to assist rural fire departments by providing no-cost military trucks that are then re-manufactured into wildland engines and water tenders through its Rural Fire Assistance Program. Without access to the vehicles and other equipment, many rural fire departments will find it difficult to operate, as commercial trucks are cost prohibitive for most departments. Currently there are 8,812 vehicle and pieces of equipment, valued at over $150 million, being utilized by Oklahoma’s rural fire departments.


The stoppage decision by the US Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM) is based in an old agreement between the DoD and EPA aimed at reducing emissions. Under the agreement, vehicles not meeting EPA emission standards would be destroyed instead of sold. It is unclear why the agreement is being enforced at this time.


“This action will ultimately result in increased exposure of communities to loss of life and property associated with wildfire, as well as increased fire suppression costs,” said George Geissler, State Forester and Director, Oklahoma Forestry Services. “The greenhouse gas emissions associated with the vehicles are marginal at best compared to emissions of an uncontrolled wildfire.”


Local fire departments are the first to respond to most to most wildfires. In many states, including Oklahoma, local departments are first on the scene for more than 75% of all wildfires . Quick initial response protects lives, property and reduces fire suppression costs for local, state and federal entities.


Oklahoma Forestry Services is working with state and federal officials, the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service to gather more information and seek a long term solution to resolve the issue and make this equipment available.

Seems the extra amount of pollution emitted from an out of control brush fire would far out weigh the difference in the amount of pollution a non conforming engine vs a conforming one would put out. But then-who am I to question this? I am just a plain ol' math kind of person.

We have confirmed this is the case. I'm opening the thread, but let's stay away from political party discussion. Also, there's one more thing in play behind the scenes still that we're aware of. Hopefully by next week we'll have feedback on the talks that are happening.

Wow don't leave us wondering or anything!

Too many businesses, municipalities, and volunteer fire departments depend on these easy to get for a decent price very capable trucks. I doubt a total stopage of the flow of these trucks will happen.
