Re- babbitting a barring.

Ok, it is official, I have the baddest engine in the world...

Ok, maybe no the world, but it is cool. It finally popped and banged to life today. It was 35 degrees.) Yes it could use a engine coolant heater, which I will get. I will also get an oil pan heater so I don't have to use my propane space heater under the truck. I ran it for about 2 hours, so I think the barrings are fixed.. Yea, there is not a lot of snow now, but at least I was able to test it. The thing is such a monster, you don't know you are digging dirt until the snow changes color to brown.. Then I bring the blower up a little. I hit a couple of rocks. the thing just flings them out at 100 miles an our. I will have to be careful where I aim that snow.

Thanks. I am glad I got the original engine running. It is probably less efficient, but it keeps it original. And it is just a cool engine. I am only using it for personal use, so I don't need efficiency. I just need to get through snow drifts to the road.

That's just down right cool. Grumpy sounding. What's the rpm at idle and running? Sounds like maybe a 1000 when it's going.

Redline is at 1000 - or 1200 - depending on which paper you look at. It idols at 500, about.

Well, DANG .. today I broke the auger chain... It looks like someone tried to fix it by welding it. That just made it brittle so it broke. Does anyone know where to fine industrial chain links? it in about an inch wide and and inch between the bars of the link. There are sheer pins that bent, but because of the week chain, the oiny only bent.

Grainger, mcmaster, maybe napa. Look on the sides of the link, sometimes the size is there. Should be like a 80 or 100 size... If you measure the pin dia of the links, width and lenght that should get you the right size. Not expensive stuff, may have to buy it in a 10 foot length.

Check fastenal too, stores are few and far between out your way but they can ship direct to you as well. I know i have seen us order some really big chain for a customer in the past.
