Why do things always pop up when money is tight. Valence found a box from an older version of the M109, for cheap. Would need to be rebuilt but the roof looks fine and the main frame looks solid.

Problem is, how to transport it and where to store it until I get some land, probably over a year away.

Or sell my current deuce bed.

Or pass on the box.
Need opinions and help. Picking up a wrecker this winter so having the bed winch and tail roller are not as big of a concern after that.

I think you're correct that's not a M109 bed it looks like a WWII bed off of a CCKW, but with all those windows, it would make a pretty cool camper. Nice find.

No suggestions for transport, but maybe you can cut a deal with a towing/ recovery company (with a secure yard), and negotiate some small change to pay them just to let you drop it in their yard until you're ready to haul it off. If they got room, there's nothing to lose for them.

First, ask THEM what they'd charge you (it might be so cheap, you'll have to catch yourself from choking right there in front of them).

And then, Second, if they name a price that's ridiculous, then start negotiating. They're likely not use to a request like this so that won't know WHAT to charge (and anything they get is better than leaving a bare spot on that land and getting nothing for it, you know?).

This is just an idea.

Holding off on the shelter, too much other stuff going on and I don't want to get stretched too thin.

The engine swap in the Deuce has been delayed a few weeks. Have a gentleman's agreement with Valence to buy the M816 wrecker later this winter that we've been working on, details in the "Rescued M816" thread in the 5 ton section. Crane on it will make the engine swap much easier.

A lazy bum here would love it if you were to post the link here sometime later in one of your posts here.

Please? (Lazy admittedly, but always TRYING to stay polite  )

Worked on the wrecker some yesterday, getting the crane operating so the engine and transmission can be pulled from the deuce.

Looking the deuce over Valence found that my rear brakes are now leaking. We pulled the cargo cover off to place it in storage along with the parts that were sitting in the truck bed.

Going to be swapping the bed out for a tractor setup. More useful for me and having a wrecker makes it easy to lift a 5th wheel off and install a shelter for camping when wanted.

That should be a sweet project, red; hope you'll post a link here somewhere if you start a new thread for that:

- Saves My Lazy A** a step from having to look up the new thread on my own. Ain't I a sorry sucker!?

Lol I'll keep it in this thread. The deuce will be tractor some of the time, and camper other times. The tractor spare tire carrier and storage box will stay on the truck, only the 5th wheel and ramps will be removable.

Thinking of moving the rear tandems back instead of chopping the frame to help with centering them under a shelter, and a little extra clearance from a trailer.

Separated the engine and transmission, clutch was EVERYWHERE!!! Clutch, throwout bearing, trans input bearing, input shaft, flex plate, and flywheel are done.

On a side note the stock exhaust manifold is a T6 flange, verified that today. So if you want to run a different turbo there are adapters cheaply available.
