i haven't used it since the 1970s .. i use good 'ol stinky fuel-oil as a penetrant and as a soak .. And yes i still have an old made-in-usa thumb-pump oil can with long flex spout for those hard-to-get-at precise targets .. I never run out of aerosol pressure this way :p
Good stuff! Yard sales here and there pop those old beauties up now and then. But hard to find for sure now with the world done all gone to plastic like it has.

There's also a shop in Nevada that sells old European military surplus, and they have product like that also now and then (usually old Czech or Swiss surplus).

Deutsche Optik I think is what they're called.

New cable arrived and it's a very good quality cable from the feel of it.
Does anyone here recommend lubing the cable up with cable lube before installing it? Doesn't seem like it has that much lube on it from the factory...
for a long time i have done it to brake cables (civilian & mil) and hydraulic valve cables on heavy equip by stuffing one end into a funnel throat and sealing the joint with a piece of old innertube and hose clamps (rubber hose would work) .. Hang it up and pour bar & chain oil .. It can take minutes to an hour or a day for the "molasses" to start running out the other end, depends on temperature, length, and internal clearance .. It helps to manipulate (or twist if it will twist) the internal cable from time to time.. My neighbor uses gear oil , but i want oil that will literally "stick"

If a cable jacket is steel (no rubber) , I then dip it in a pan of oil before installation.. Yep, it's messy, but i have never had to mess with them again.. Luckily, most hyd valve cables for heavy equip have grease fittings on each end , something i wish was done on parking brake cables

Little Soldier-B's can stand up and reach places the rest of us can't ! .. Perfect for those catch-22 spots where we can't reach laying down and can't see it squatting or kneeling..

I have one of mine all this week and yep he's gonna get dirty ! :D

(his gramma and mom ain't gonna see him before he hits the tub rofl )

Not this week but last year.:D M931-A1 cab rehab. Actually, going over the entire truck to make ready for hauling. Putting in a back wall mount R-2400-0 RD-2-4369-1 OEM Red Dot Backwall unit. This is the Space X truck posted as my user pic. It is a very nice tractor but it needs a complete going through. I actually drove it home from 200 miles away. Looking back, I am really surprised we made it back without any issues.

I've had the door weatherstrip pieces laying around for several years and finally got around to putting them on. Driver door required wire wheel, rust converter, primer, and paint before gluing them on. The only glue they had was 3M yellow...wish I had held out for black.

I designed and laser cut a pair of battery hold downs out of 10 gauge stainless to work with the 8Ds that I have and just installed them. They look pretty good and will work as long as the rubber terminal covers don't disintegrate. I reversed the j-bolts so that they would be positioned further inboard so that the bolt tabs could extend to the sides instead extending over the front and back (when facing the battery boxes).

You bet - and I can make as many as they want! Not sure what they would cost as I haven't seen my own shop bill yet, but these are pretty slick.

I'll post back with dimensions tomorrow when I have my computer handy. Most 8Ds are roughly the same size but the post centerline and distance from the post to the edge can vary.

The flange IDs of the battery hold downs is 10.957" x 19.488" so folks can measure their battery tops to see if that will fit. These could be made out of carbon steel instead of stainless and could even be made out of 12 ga. steel instead of 10 ga, but I do like the stoutness of the 10 ga.

Before I make any more I think I will increase the clearance around the posts.
