I'm glad "WITH" is highlighted rather than "YOUR". I don't personally own a wrecker but me and my brand new M984A4 towed an M1078 attached to an M149. This thing tows so much better than an M1089A1P2!!!

Actually, I hadn't even considered current "Hotel 8's"... I started this thread to get pics of action, not done TO your wrecker like other threads!!! (That's covered in 'Wrecker wishlist of mods' thread.)

More pics next time you use it PLEASE PLEASE!!

Baby wrecker gets an airing..

After a few years collecting dust in the barn, I got my Airbourne 1 tonne wrecker (Land Rover 101) running and out for a play at our annual Guy Fawkes Land Rover Event (FB).

Replaced a Hyd. hose that gave me a oil bath from the knee's down when she blew. Glad I kept the correct wrenches that came with her tool kit.

Compared to the size and girth of the 819, the 454 looks more like a Briggs.
I should have taken a few more pics, the boat is about 12' wide, 42' long and while on a trailer it was just under 14' tall(made it a mile down the road).

I simply parked beside it, and pulled both motors and set them down for a small excavator to grab and set them off to be rebuilt.

The whole task took about 30 min!

I guess most of mine will be a mix of civi wreckers and a crane. Just about every big job we go on, the crane goes too.
"OP" .... No prob here, other than the pic 'teases' at something green in the top right !!!

Is the crane ex-mil??

No teaser, it was just dirty, so it looks camo.

The crane is green iron and has come in very handy on alot of jobs.

It's like a dream! I never had an M984E1, I did have an M984A2 previously but basically the same truck. Angry Detroit 2 stroke 8V92, Allison Transmission, No A/C, Good Times! As for an M984A4, CAT C15, Allison Trans, much more torque, A/C, and doesn't even notice a 23,000 pound LMTV behind it. The only other difference between the two is the C15 is limited to 1750 rpm in 5th. That translates into 62 mph in the high gear. My better half asserts that I ran around 70 mph unloaded and loaded but I have doubts that Oshkosh calibrated the speedometer off that far. Considering the 16R20 tires are only rated at 55 mph, I'm quite certain that I was not doing 70 but I did have it on the governor. 2 other major changes between the 2, one easily replicated and one, not so much. The A4 has air ride seats but also has air bag suspension on all 4 axles. There is no adjustment on the suspension from the operator position, it just ups the pressure in the rear bags if you're lift towing something heavy and lowers the pressure if not loaded. The combination of the two makes it go across bumps much smoother. I will post many more pics on this thread as the usage rate goes up. I perform quite a few tows a year, I've just finally gotten a smart phone that can document them!

Although it's still immobile (air brake conversion on the m816) it's still being put to use.

Had a couple generators to unload from a trailer, then load into the back of a m923.

The MEP002a will be going onto my tool/welding trailer later this year.

The future trailer had to be moved forward and my friend wanted to test out the new winch on his land cruiser. Will be happy once this wrecker is mobile again.
