What is this on the scales?

Agreed, definitely a M53. It was sort of hard to judge the length of the barrel in the pics of it on the trailer since there was no dead on side shot but the latest pic certainly confirms the barrel protruding beyond the body by quite a bit.

It is an M53, part of the G-259 family with the undercarriage being based on the M48 tank.

155mm gun carrier.
After 1956, all M-53's were rebuilt as M-55's and the undercarriage was based on the M-47 tank.

In Nam the M-55's were 203 mm. ( 8 inch Howitzer ) in 1967 they were replaced with the as pictured, M-110's also with the 8" Howitzers.

(M-55) 40.2 tons, length 25'-11", Width 11'-9", Height 11'-8";

704 hp. Continental V-12 engine, Speed 30 mph, Range 160 miles.

I stand corrected, that paint job confused my brainhousing group, it is a M-53, with the 155 mm. (6.1" dia.) gun tube.
