Wisconsin dot to propose mv ban

The MVPA is assembling a team to work on this issue.

I have asked Jeff Rowsam from Denmark WI to head a Sub Committee to organize and execute an effort to stop this rule change before it becomes law. All politics is local and we need people from WI to be the point of the spear.

Jeff has also agreed to develop procedures that will allow us to respond in a unified way, from the lessons learned in this and other recent DOT issues. Jeff is a long time MVPA member and I am confident he will act in the best interest of the hobby. Thank you Jeff !

Has anyone been able to ascertain the reasoning or basis why this proposal was introduced in the first place? What problems now exist that requires new action that was not previously in the vehicle code/law ..Why some years are OK and others are not? Emission standards, size, weight class, what...?
Knowing this possibly allow a better defense if the basic facts, assumptions and other information that is being submitted are in error..

the whole thrust of this law seems to be that MV's don't meet Federal Standards. Sure they were designed for off-road use, but so is every 4x4 and/or all-wheel-drive sedan these days. They were also designed for on road use ...

What federal highway standards don't MV's meet? If they meet all standards, then there is no need for this law and the issuance of 'certifyng labels' should be no problem..

simple for me.... or what am I missing..

I guess we don't have all the answers yet, but from past experience I know they will not be handing out the standards labels at the corner store. Most standards listings must be done at the place of manufacture and the Govm't will probably have a Deuce load of hoops for us to jump thru.
This may be a simple requirement, but I doubt it.

It is also my guess that their thinking is that post 1968 MVs were exempted from many emission and safety laws and therefore are not as safe as civilian vehicles with the stickers. It would be interesting to know why they have such a hard on for this considering the small numbers involved and the total lack of statistics to back up any real safety issues.

I use my truck mainly for parades, car/truck shows and displays for about any event you can think of. I only put on about 600 miles a year and they want to mess with me and my truck? I guess I don't understand the lawmakers thinking on this subject. I am the only one in my immediate area with a military vehicle that I've seen, so again I don't really get why they are trying to do this.

i just don't want to hear oh sorry you can register this vehicle when i have it reeady to roll.

Should i step it up and just Tag it ASAP ?
or
you think waiting will be fine ?

I would tag anything I had sitting around, be it running , a parts truck, or an old clunker rod project, so you may get in under the grandfather clause of this regulation. Moving forward it stops titling once passed. i sent the teamster hack, Frank Busalacchi, several letters concerning what they are purposing. There are greater concerns with illegal aliens driving without the proper license and insurance than a couple of law abidding citizens who love older vehicles. Just more socialism at work.

what if you get a piece of land out of state and register it and title it there. They can't stop you from driving it in wisconsin, that is against interstate commerce acts.
