interesting thread, but if you are this concerned, move out now. if tshf, where are you going? go there sooner. spend your money more wisely, i.e bullets, food, etc. in the event of a REAL emergency, there will be no possible way the roads will be clear and traffic moving. in short this is a really bad idea with the completely wrong vehicle. and if you really want people to try to stop you, make it look like a military vehicle. (oh, it already does!!)

Ouch! Anger issues.. I guess it would be wrong to mention we paln to buy a 6x6 tractor and turn it into a "Road Warrior" truck?

Perhaps he is only building up the truck as a lark, if not as long as a person is not planning to injure others, who cares.

I believe the thread started asking for ideas how to armor plate, not asking for approval or condemnation or other Social enginerring. Who are we to judge, it is America (although he did say lives in CA), it is his truck and his money so what.

not try'n to anger anyone but . . . if you use the phonebooks, go to Sams, get ten one gallon jugs of Elmers school glue. Soak every other page or so. to dry it out use the steel plate on top of the book; and drive up on it with the truck for three of four days. You will increase the strength of that book comparable to steel.....

Anger anyone? Heck no. That's a great idea but there's probably a thousand pages in a phonebook. You will need a quicker press process and a quicker application process cause if it takes one day to apply the glue to the book and 2 days of press of the truck. It would take (estimated) 3 days to complete one phonebook. If a phone book averages at 12" tall and 10" wide. You would need at least 40 phonebooks to go a 8' by 4' back wall across the back of a deuce. 40x3dys=120 days for one wall to complete. 4 months of continuous work on one wall would really suck. Besides, you would need to times that wall by 5 for the whole truck. 2 wall for front and rear and 1.5 walls for the sides. So 4months per wall times(X) 5 total walls would put you at a 20 month panel making process. If you can get 10 people a day at the same speed of work to help cause the glu might be dry before you get to the last page. You can use all 10 tires on the truck (providing its not a singled out truck). You would be able to complete the process in 20days to make the walls. Plus welding 80' of beads (with both sides of the panel) would take about 8days to complete. 28days for a project for 10 people is way to long and 20 months for an individual would feel like prison. How about 1 day a book and then vacuum sealing them? 40 books a panel times(X) 5 panels would put you at 200days plus(+) 8days to weld would still be a 7 months of continuous work for 1 person or using 10 people with a vacuum sealing method would put you at 28 days of continuous work for 10 people. If your not worrying about weight at almost 1000 pounds a panel (if your using 1/4" steel) at 5000 pounds of weight plus cargo would be at peak for highway only use. I would take it offroad. You might brake the springs or even the frame if you flex the truck at all. The lightest ballistic material so far I came up with was kevlar and dragons skin. Which if any of us had the money to buy, we wouldn't choose a slow moving deuce for a SHTF vehicle. We got to get a lighter method. Ill run some ballistic tests on the 7.62 NATO when I'm on vacation and try to find a better lighter method.

Also guys as to the legality of a up armored vehicle in CA or anywhere else as a LEO that has studied quite a bit of law I would say the laws pointed out were for money hauling vehicles and if you were to dig deeper you would find they just want the money of taxing those companies I know most states have similarly written laws that are just aimed at that industry. If I am not mistaken there are more than a few armored limousines and the like out there.

Way to take the high road  and that is not why we have to do EUC's
Are gangs and gang members not A-holes? The EUC process is exactly why you have to prove your an upstanding member of society and not the type that would use these trucks in a menacing (sp?) way. If not then what is the EUC for?

Mainly to make sure you do not export them, or if you do want to export, that you fill out extra paperwork to get the proper permission.
