Deuce trailer build thread

The dove tail will be just a bit higher when I put the 395's on it and I get it finished. I haven't decided on the length of the dovetail yet. It isn't finish welded yet.

What am I missing....why not use the donor deuce frame and just add metal to it as needed......already the correct height to line up with the drive shaft on the towing vehicle.

A lot less fabbing would be needed IMHO.

Ref the drive shaft why not have a quick disconnect like you would have on a Bush Hog or other piece of shaft driven equipment?

I don't have a donor Deuce frame. The axle sections that I have are left over from bobbing Deuces. As for the quick disconnect I really haven't figured out what I am going to use yet for the disconnect.

Today I got the new tongue on. And I took it for a 50 mile drive to see how it tows. It tows straight and smooth. Next is to weld on all the scab plates, braces, and to build the ramps. Then lights and decking. I live in base housing and the manager drove by today though and took pictures of me working on the trailer. A big No No here. So I might be putting the project on hold for a bit. We'll see.

The hobby shop on Pendleton is scheduled to close due to budget cuts. The one on Miramar won't let me weld. And the one on MCRD has a welding stall but it's too small to fit the trailer in. So at the moment I'm on hold for the braces and decking.

i dont know if you have thought about it or not, but you may want to mount a transfer case under the rear of the deuce so the driveline can be disingaged when not needed. in a turn, the trailer will push the rear of the truck when loaded, causing a jacknife and rollover. land rover had a similar setup, and they scrapped the concept because of this. if you use an air shift t case, it could be mounted under the trailer also

Thanks for the info on the T-case. I am still trying to figure out the disconnect system. As for the weight. I am putting the tail lights on it tomorrow and a couple extra pieces of steel then going to take it and weigh it. I'm using the scale on Camp Pendleton. So it can take the length and it's free. I still have to put the braces and decking on but it'll give me an idea of what I'm working with.

Ford and Chrysler use an overrunning clutch (one way clutch) similar to what the inboard drag boats use so that the rear axle cannot overpower the front.
it becomes part of the driveshaft.

A overrunning clutch is what a sprag is in a transfer
