How about a California Steel Soldiers Rally at a great spot?

The Southern Calif S.S. rally in spring and fall is a great desert event to try out your vehicles, have a little fireworks fun, and enjoy a great group of guys camping out.

LODI California is up in Northern California and has a Spring and Fall meet at the Tower Park K.O.A. campgrounds. They are probably the largest military vehicle meet in California in April and the second largest vehicle meet in September. The meets are open to anyone interested in Military Vehicles of all types and countries and draw a lot of members from the MVPA, MVCC, and other groups.

I was thinking of promoting a Steel Soldiers California meet on the same order as the LODI meet for folks who are to far away for the northern or southern motor vehicle events but could make a central California location to attend a military vehicle get together.

The date would be selected by popular vote so as to not interfere with current military vehicle active events ( July?) or local non military events. This event could be a Fri - Sunday or Thur. - Sun weekend or longer (if desired?)

The location would be Bishop, California. Facilities could be arranged with Brown's Town Campground or Browns Millpond Campground which are the best choice near to or in Bishop that avoids having to go up the Sherman Grade.
There is also the private Bishop Gun Club on the outskirts of town where we should be able to make arrangements for day passes so you can try your marksmanship skills at a structured shooting range with 25 foot to 200 yard outdoor target lanes.

There is also fishing, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, Laws museum, the Paiute Palace Casino, tubing, rafting, trails to explore with your M.V.'s, and other recreation. A round trip military vehicle convoy between Browns Millpond and Browns Town campground site would act almost like a parade thru downtown Bishop. There could also be awards for various M.V. categories (if the event became successful)

I belong to no organized military vehicle club or organization. I am not trying to upstage any current military vehicle event or make waves with any Military Vehicle organizations. I became a member of Steel Soldiers because there was alot of help from fellow members regarding all aspects of the M.V. hobby from manuals to outright direct assistance. No group, club or website is without some dissent and bad attitudes but the open M.V. event brings everyone together for a good time sharing the same interests and to proudly display a bit of military history.

On the Steel Soldiers site I have seen many S.S. events going on around the states but not many for California. Only the S.S. So. California Desert Rally open event for spring and fall, or the Lodi, Calif. Tower Park open event in the spring and fall draw anyone.

I have also seen some requests on the S.S. site by California M.V. enthusiasts in So. Calif. for events that are closer to them, or at least centrally located and not always "totally booked" six months in advance.

This suggestion is to accommodate those who would like this type of event (not BIG but not real small) in a beautiful setting easily reached and loaded with ammenities for the entire family. If there is sufficient response to my suggestion I will freely do all the leg work, make all the arrangements, and keep all that are interested up to date on the progress towards the establishment of such an event in Bishop, California.

The VITAL ELEMENT is whether there are enough people interested to make this happen...I can only tell by the response I receive from Steel Soldier Members to this thread as to whether we can establish the "Steel Soldiers - Bishop California Open Camp and Convoy"

I think he is trying to say subscribed.

There are a bunch more events going on in California that you are not aware of because you have not joined the clubs. You should consider joining the MVPA, MVCC and the SCMVCC to start

Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion.

I have looked into the MVPA and MVCC in the past but I guess I like a less structured atmosphere and have had difficulties after joining clubs in the past.
I have seen the snobbish and cliqueish behavior of others from military vehicle purists, bobbers, mudders etc. because I and others may not fit thier idea of the use, restoration, paint color, and other criteria relative to military vehicles.

I guess that is why I am on Steel Soldiers where anyone with any interest in military vehicles is welcome. Of course, there is also some snobbish and cliqueish behavior on Steel Soldiers as with any large group.

I have enclosed the event calendars for MVPA, MVCC, and SCMVV for others to review as I have...Thanks again "quickfarms"

The events listed in post 8 purported to be from the SCMVCC website were not taken from there current website, www.scmvcc.com. The events listed on there current website are not always complete and kept up to date. The current events are listed in there newsletter that is distributed to the paid members by either email or mail. Events that occur on short notice are distributed through either email or phone calls to the members.

The MVCC events list does not appear to be complete. Again there complete list of events is in there newsletter.

Please post your attachments as a PDF file. Due to the fact that an executable file, virus, can be hidden in a doc file most anti virus programs will not download the file

I'm in! When is the big day?

Thanks for your support!

I have gotten four pretty positive replies. The date and length of the event (weekend? 4 days? 3 days?) is open as of now but would be decided by general consensus of the interested parties (like you). I did not want to conflict with the schedule of folks who are regulars at other events they attend so when I have around 8 or 10 seriously interested parties I can start the ball rolling to solidify agreed upon dates, etc.
