I did the same to my 1009. Haven't regretted it one bit.
It is nice to see other open minded people. I am by no means knocking the purists that want to keep things original, I just want my truck the way I want it. Yes, the 24V system works great, WHEN it works. When it doesn't, it is a pain in my _ _ _. I do not have a way to effectively jump start the truck when the batteries die so I did the conversion. I chose option #3 so I have 2 separate charging systems. I can play a radio, charge my cell phone, run a winch etc, without worrying about draining the starting batteries. I think I am going to be very happy with it.

Um, yeah, there are a couple of non-compliant features on this truck : no rear plate light or mudflaps. There is a light on the bumper, residual from when the plate was located there, I suppose I could turn it upside down so it faces upward. I'd rather run a wire into the tailgate tho. And am looking for mudflaps that have built-in VHF antennas then co-phase them. Highly directional, though I can drive up a hill then face the rear to where I want to talk.
Too much metal.... might get good SWR but radiation pattern will be crap.

I replaced all the fan belts on my 1008 yesterday. I went with belts that were 1/2 inch smaller than the ones listed in the CUCV Wiki. The last time I replaced them, I used the numbers provided and they were all at the very end of the adjustment range from the git go. When they got broke in good, they squealed at times, especially the right side alternator. With the slightly smaller belts, they are right in the middle of the adjustment range which is perfect for later readjustment.

I used Dayco belt part numbers:
Drivers side alternator 15775
Passenger side alternator 15485
Power steering 15450

I was surprised how expensive the belts are, I can buy original equipment (Not Dayco) fan belts for Mercedes for less than half the price. Oh well.

Tried to figure out why either of my light switches would turn the lights on but both had to be off to have the lights off........when they were supposed to be 3 way...

well... someone rewired it...why...I have no clue...but it's fixed now...

It's the small victories..

Drove mine to work today. Power steering pump fell off, broke the (1) bolt
holding it to the bracket. Got it ready to go back on tomorrow.
Borrowed a used car to drive home, a Hummer H1. Not really a bad turn of
events, the H1 is actually cool, I like it

Drove to work as well...been using the TCW3 additive for nearly 4 full tanks now...big improvement in sound and general smoothness of engine. Picked up the gallon kit of Opti-lube from a.....n.com recently. Haven't used it yet, but expect there to be even more of an increase in 'performance' as indicated by the study someone referred to in this forum.

Thats what I love about these rigs....always something to learn!

I ordered up some zero rates, new 14b diff cover and armor, skid plates. Oh and I took a picture with the bumper off by the pond as a last pic before all the body work gets done!

Do most guys use the LMC window repair parts or genuine GM?
The last time I needed one of the rear window regulators from LMC they were out 6 months. That was last year. Auto Parts Warehouse has the AC Delco GM rear window regulator. I am assuming you are refering to the rear window regulator. While you are in there replace the right and left tracks, (LMC) grease the tracks and guides and polish the metal sash on the bottom of the window. It will make everything work much better and smoother. That is one of the reasons the regulators go bad. They are over worked and under maintained. The M1009 gate is an expensive item to do a complete over haul on but in the end it is worth it. It makes the whole opening and closing process so much easier and less regretful.

Link to this kit on the LMC site please? I cant find it in their endless "catalog" lol. Tired of having my back window down 2 inches.

LMC part numbers are as follows 38-6690 , 38-6691 , for the window side felt tracks $50. each and the manual regulator is 38-6588 $99.95. And while you are at it put the 2 roller guides on the bottom sash. 38-6681 $19.95 each. Unless you are smooth and free of any rust pitting.They call them cam guides in the catalog on line. Page 45 Tailgate / Body. Replace these items as needed and you will be the happy owner of a fully operational M1009 rear gate window.

Dunno about most guys. I bought the LMC, and it works. I have seen some comments that the OEM is much better. Do a search - some folks have recommened an online soucre for OEM that is'n't much more than LMC. If I had seen those comments before I bought LMC, I would have gone OEM.

My regulator was shot when I bought the truck. Got a new one from LMC. The bad one looked virtually identical to the new one, so I'm guessing it didn't last too long. If this one fails soon I'll buy an OEM if I can find one. The teeth on the LMC one seem to be a weak metal and are subject to rapid wear.

Autopartswarehouse had OEM AC Delco regulators for the M1009 They do not have any at this time I just called. I have 2 new ones OEM they are AC Delco #15641780. The customer service advisor at APW told me they are available from Amazon. for $146.57 They only have one available search Amazon and use the part number 15641780. I hope that helps and it don't get me in any trouble for helping you out. These are OEM AC Delco high quality regulators made in Mexico by GM

I think they are want the rear window regulator. Didn't you have a buddy that could build some?
