Put a short enough chain in between 2 vehicles and it has no choice but to follow. Brought home an S10 with an S10 blazer. Chained together. About 15 miles on a county road.

Kwaligura and Whatadeuce, thats what a lot of people do up here. Living remote, has its benefits as there are few LE to harass you ( most understand the situation) when you are moving equipment and broken trucks. We have probably as many gravel roads as paved. No freeways and only two highways, so the chain/spare tire system works well, and recovery straps often are great for "popping" vehicles out of the ditch compared to winching.

loaded up my empty pioneer rack with tractor supply stuff, got yellow handles for visibility but after shortening the shovel almost 5" to get it to fit the yellow part is hidden under the rubber condom, added a crowbar as it fit and because, i think i can sneak a 6 or 8# sledge under the shovel, i've seen a kit with a sledge but can't find the pic again to verify fit and position.
now the only problem is thief proofing it as its not useful in the storage building when its needed in the truck and laziness strikes, thinking strategic holes and one of those bike cables where the end plugs into a socket

That's a great Pioneer set-up, and the cable is a good idea, BUT (so what's new, right?):

- Problem is those bike cables usually have a loop at the end (or the socket is almost twice the cable diameter)

- And that complicates the matter of making a hole just-a-bit wider than the cable diameter (the loop or the socket screws everything)

But I bet somebody clever here will have a good idea.

So are your brakes stock or did they get upgraded to dual circuit?
I got dual circuit brakes. If I have both systems go out, I'll have a tow truck bring it home, as its cheaper than owning another truck capable of towing it. Odds are that the engine or transmission fail on a vehicle.

I looked it up and see that david has a 87 airforce truck which has the dual circuit stock. Darn was hoping it was a fresh upgrade and he could tell us where he got all the parts and price:grin:

And remember what Sergeant Bonecrusher says: davidB56, tighten that emergency break too! And have wheel chocks tied to the truck so that when you park on a steep hill. it wont be able to roll!

I was referring to the "towed" vehicle. Unless you have a spare driver for that truck you cannot get away with just using a "strap" to tow it. Even then if the "spare" driver isn't alert you can have a nasty accident. I was towing my buddies car to his house many years ago, and since we only had to go about 2 miles we just put a strap on it and he drove the car. I needed to stop fast due to a stupid driver cutting me off and my friend wasn't paying attention. We where going about 20 miles an hour and he slammed into me really hard. Smashed in his front end and really did a number on my rear bumper.
If we had had a "proper" tow bar that accident would not have happened. Same thing applies here. Also with a "proper" tow bar you don't need a driver in the towed vehicle.
That was what I was referring too.

@ rusty..I am referring to my vehicle as the one being towed too. the chance of another Deuce towing me up here is slim to none. We use straps here all the time. I have Never seen anyone towing a vehicle with a tow bar except RV's hauling their car. Its strap, trailer, or tow truck for broken vehicles for me, tow bars for anyone wanting/needing one.

Finally got all the wheels stripped down, primed & repainted. Want to also say that the torque wrench I bought last week is awesome!! Are the professional grade, not at all!! Also the old J-pipe is off, just waiting on the paint to arrive so I can paint the new one & get it installed. After the rally in GA the truck will have newer/not bent to **** rear splash guards/mud flaps on. Will also be stripping the cab floor & repainting it as well too...

So you always will need another body then. I usually end up being by myself and have to tow something with my tow bar. My friends lead real busy lives (one owns a gas station and another owns a home repair business. The rest live to far away) and I cannot depend on them all the time. So if I breakdown I need to get a ride home and get my other truck to retrieve the broken one.

I hope you’re going to get some mud on those freshly painted wheels at the rally!
