I want to JUNK my rig... Thing has me so pissed off... The issues I am finding is crazy...

So doing the "check the spindle nuts" (don't judge is was consensual) I found 1) drivers front the bolt holding wasn't tight, missing the sealing washer on the fill plug, and RTV in the bearings.2) Drivers rear has issue before I check the nut with missing bolts on the CV axle and no clamps on the CV boots. 3) Passenger front the tie rod end where sloppy loose. The nuts were only finger tight but did have the cotter pins installed. There was a ton of slop. All plugs were loose as well of the nut cover plate. And RTV everywhere... While working on the passenger front I spot a leak on the floor. Fuel pump... Off to order pump. Back to the passenger rear. All is looking good then I spot the bottom ball joint zerk fitting is broken off.... This isn't going to be easy to remove... Then I touched the nut ... It is loose but the tabs are bent in. I can move the spindle about 1/4" in and out. Of course I ordered the fuel pump and has already been shipped. Have to order the locking washers... should have waited to place the order for the pump... Pissed at this.

Now this ins't by first rodeo when it comes to Mil surplus vheicles... and I know how they can be. But this one is taking the cake.

How much if a pain is it to set the preload of the hub while it's on the truck? GRRRR... Can you take the hub out without removing the CV axe from the diff? If not I will need some nordlocks... at least I believe I can get them locally...

What tool are people useing to seprate the ball joints from the hub? Will a good knock of a hammer work?

At least I have a face of the Mechanics who have worked on my truck... The bottom picture is MY truck... Hope they found something other than turning wrenches after the Corps :wreckerman893:
So you found the loose hub nut BEFORE you lost your wheel… and you’re upset that you are all in one piece and not injured?

Now just like lug nuts I replace all the half shaft bolts and Nord lock washers on every Humvee I get, it is a good idea to inspect the flange threads as who knows what they have been through.

No... I need a new star lock washer and I JUST place an order BEFORE I found the loose nut. I am a cheap bastard and hate to pay shipping twice.

They also had the nut on backwards and there was a huge burr on the threads... the nut wasn't going to seat. Also having a heck of the time trying to get the broken zerk out.

I was thinking. Yes I know we are not supposed to do that but, What is the reason not to reuse your star washer. I would assume that you would not want to bent the same tabs more than once. Since the nut wasn't tight and upside down I went and installed and torque the nut. I wanted to see if the groves line up with the bent/used tangs. They did not line up with the used/bent tangs. So there are "fresh" tangs to use. I know the correct thing to do is use a new star washer but if you are not using the same tangs why no reused the washer?

.
There are "star washers" and there are "tang washers".
Definitely different animals.

Star washers shouldn't be reused. People do it all the time though, so go about it your way?

True but in the context of the spindle nut I would think people would know what washer I am talking about. I could call it what the parts TM says, Washer, key and I am sure people would be all like Whisky Tango Foxtrout

I would say if they are the correct type (uses two tabs) and it happens to line up with unused tabs, then I would reuse them, I would look very close to the used tabs and if I thought they were week I would go ahead and break them off so they would not "fall" off into the bearings.
Of course I would not do that for a customer or a vehicle that I planned on selling , only a personal vehicle.

Thanks... Yes my nuts are the two tab style and I didn't see any cracks in the washer. I do like the idea of breaking off the tabs... I may save any old ones and break off the used tabs. May get you by in a pinch. assuming you use them on a different hub.

Anyway I did take the truck out for a test drive and wow what a differences tightening up the tie rod ends and wheel hub bearing. Truck feels good to drive... better than before. I also replaced the turbo and seems to run better. Thought I think that is just in my mind.
