    Power steering pump pulley puller

I know most of this information can be found if you search long enough, but I'm hoping that this post makes it easier for the next guy who experiences the joy of how I've just spent my morning! There are a few reasons to end up needing to remove your power steering pump pulley, and they all...

6.2 dies when you let off throttle

My M1009 did the same thing, you could keep it running if you used the gas pedal, but it was really not ideal. This was during the test drive. After a few miles of running it, it started to improve, and by the time I got it home it was running perfectly. How much driving have you done?

How do you clean your CUCV?

Those things never get your truck very clean!

    86 M1009 questions

When it comes down to it, a 12v system with 2 batteries is going to push the same number of watts (unit of work) as a 24v system with the same two batteries. watts=volts*amps, if you're using the same size batteries you can either double the amps (batteries in parallel) or double the volts...

    86 M1009 questions

If he's already started converting it to 12v, I'd just finish the job. You're using 2 12v batteries to get 24v just so you can run a hard to get starter and burn 12v off as heat with resisters on the glow plug circuit. If you don't have some specific requirement for the 24v to be there, it...

    Acquired an M1009

Looks nice! Too bad about the camo being painted over though!

Is a CUCV right for me?

Horsepower is an almost meaningless figure for a low revving diesel engine though, it rewards higher rpm. What turns tires is the torque, and 250 foot pounds is a respectable figure.

Is a CUCV right for me?

Good info, sounds to me like the recommendation should be "If you want to tow, get a M1009" then! [thumbzup]

Back to 24V conversion glow plug question

What is the motivation for going back to 24v? There is very little of the truck that actually is 24v, and for questionable gain. If you have NATO equipment you want to power, or a 24v trailer, or you have a bunch of these and they're all 24v, I could see it. Not many other circumstances I can...

Is a CUCV right for me?

Not sure where the negativity towards towing is coming from. My M1009 has no problems towing! I had U-Haul put a combination hitch where the Pintle was, wired in a light kit, and my brother has had a trailer on it basically full time since I got it. My hitch is rated at 17,000 pounds, and the...

m1009 dies if you let off the gas too quickly, thoughts?

My truck no longer has that issue... I can't really pick a particular thing I did that made it better, but before the problem went away I bled/primed the fuel filter, put in fresh fuel, replaced both batteries, replaced the glow plugs, and just plain drove it. The problem seemed to get less...

    1985 m1009 alt options

Is there any chance your glow plugs are being juiced after the truck is started? You can easily measure power to one to find out.

    1985 m1009 alt options

Wish I had better advice for you, but if it were my truck I'd start unhooking things until I found where the draw was. Google tells me an old style light bar should be in the 40a range, the truck running with lights should be in the 40a range too, so pure guestimation is that there is another...

Is there some other power-draining mod on the truck that would account for it? Also, how reliable is that 135a draw measurement?
